Yup. And here's the statement of the offense:
storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.usco…

Joshua James pleaded guilty.

The facts include "agreeing to take part in a plan developed by Rhodes to stop the lawful transfer of presidential power by January 20, 2021" by force.

By force.

1/
James is naming names. (Screenshot #1)

At the end of a 🔥 statement of the offense, the prosecutors let us know that the details included do not constitute a "complete statement of all facts known by Joshua James or the government."(#2)

They're not telling all they know.

2/
The easiest way to get convictions is to get people to plead guilty. Duh, right?

The DOJ now has a conviction for seditious conspiracy and conspiracy to prevent the transfer of power by force.

The easiest way to collect evidence is to get it directly from co-conspirators.

3/
Trials are unpredictable. It's so much easier when the person just says, "Yeah, I did it."

And it's always hard to get all the evidence, particularly because defendants don't have to talk.

Here's what Merrick Garland said on Jan. 5⤵️(his speech frustrated a lot of people).

4/
law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/18…

Here are the elements of seditious conspiracy:
🔹Two or more persons . . .
🔹Conspire to overthrow . . . or destroy by force the Government of the US or to levy war against them . . .
🔹by force . . .

5/
. . . or by force to prevent, hinder, or delay the execution of any law of the United States, or any property of the United States contrary to the authority thereof.

The key to this crime is the use of force.

6/
Treason is almost impossible to charge. It’s defined in the Constitution as⤵️

SCOTUS has said that the “enemy” must be a country in which we are at open war, meaning a war declared by Congress.

So seditious conspiracy is the closest we have to a charge of treason.

7/
It is still going to take time.

Now the prosecutors follow all the evidence they get from James (who has to turn over everything he knows.)

The next ring will be confronted with evidence and a witness statement. They'll have to make their decision.

8/
Back to the facts.

Lots of talk during the weeks before Jan. 6 about how
"It will be a bloody and desperate fight. We are going to have a fight. That can’t be avoided."

And a shopping trip:

9/
Part of the plan involved being prepared to report to the White House and use force if anyone tried to remove Trump from the White House.

Odd.

Did they think Trump's term ends when Congress certifies the election results?🤷‍♀️

10/
The facts allege that Rhodes came up with the plan (and he has a Yale law degree, so you'd think he read the Constitution.)

Rhodes was also indicted and is awaiting trial.

Now he finds out his buddy pleaded guilty and is turning over evidence.

11/
washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2022/…
This was only the beginning. In the evening on Jan. 6, they planned to stop an inauguration (#1)

Then, on Jan. 8th, they're all like OMG we better start deleting our messages !!! (#2)

By Jan, 20, they were getting scared (#3)

12/
Reading the messages they sent each other is stunning.

They really thought they were going to overthrow the government of the United States.

They thought they would capture the Capitol and take on the "National Guard or other government actors."

13/
I suppose it's possible for these guys to be so delusional that they thought they could buy a bunch of guns and overthrow the US government (even if they did think the federal government consisted of a "cabal of elites).

Or they thought they had higher-up inside help.

14/
An FBI agent previously told the court that James chauffered Roger Stones in a golf cart on Jan. 5, the day before the insurrection.

I wish I knew what James told investigators about Roger Stone.

OK. I ran it through Google Translate. Here you go:

"Many people ask me to comment on the sanctions.

In short, my scientific conclusion as a professor of finance, doctor of the University of Chicago is . . .
. . . FUCKED. And double fucked up that the inhabitants of Russia, even the educated, for the most part, do not understand what awaits them.

I explain. Very soon, the Russians will face a shortage of basic products. I'm not talking about all kinds of iPhones . . .
. . . the import of which has already been banned, but about food, clothes, cars, household appliances, etc.

Gazprom, the main exporter of gas, is already under sanctions, that is, it is generally unclear how it will receive foreign exchange earnings.

The Rand Corp. has a paper on how to combat the 'firehose of falsehoods,' a Russian propaganda technique.

(The technique is also used by Fox and America's far right-wing. What a coincidence, right?)

The paper is here: rand.org/pubs/perspecti…

1/
The use of this method tells rapid and continuous stream of lies.

The user exhibits a “shameless willingness” to tell outrageous lies that lots of people know are lies.

The liar doesn’t care about consistency. He doesn’t care if it’s obvious he’s lying.

2/
The goal is the “disruption of truthful reporting and messaging.”

While we must refute the falsehoods, “retractions and refutations are seldom effective.”

Therefore, “Don’t expect to counter the Firehose of Falsehood with a squirt gun of truth.”

Hi, @FrankLuntz, you're getting lots of answers.

One answer comes from the political psychologist.

But first, the simpler answer: The modern Republican Party + Putin = true love because they have common goals.

1/
Putin’s regime, remember, is built on white nationalism, homophobia, and fear of those who are different.

As part of Putin’s rejection of all things communist, he embraced Christianity and aligned himself with American evangelicals.

Here is a timeline . . .

2/
2013: Russia enacted anti-homosexual legislation.
theguardian.com/world/2013/jun…

2014: Pat Buchanan said Putin was “entering a claim that Moscow is the Godly city of today.” He praised Putin for stamping out western evil like easy divorce and homosexuality.

I'll start with what we know about the Manhattan DA story.

The NYT reported that two prosecutors, Dunne and Pomerantz, resigned.

(The information in the article comes from “people with knowledge of the matter.”)

1/
Here's the NYT story: nytimes.com/2022/02/23/nyr…

Reportedly they resigned because Bragg, the Manhattan DH, has doubts about moving forward.

It also appears that Weisselberg will not cooperate (he won’t flip on Trump) and either will any other executives.

2/
Bragg doesn’t say much, but he says the investigation is “ongoing.” (Who knows what that means.)

We do know that Weisselberg and the Trump Org are indicted and set to go to trial.

One (very unlikely) possibility is that it's slam dunk case and Bragg got cold feet.

People who are surprised that the GOP is siding with an autocratic dictator over Western democracy miss an important part of American history:
Autocracy is deep in our history.

A multi-racial democracy didn't come to America until recently.

Slavery was autocratic. . .
. . . Jim Crow was autocratic.

The GOP's pushback against America transitioning to a true multi-racial democracy goes hand-in-hand with supporting a dictator like Putin.

It's perfectly consistent.
Putin stages elections in which the result is known beforehand.

Members of the GOP were cool with fair elections when the choice was between two white men.

Now . . . not so much.

Putin knows how to wield disinformation and he knows that the United States is divided: A large portion of the population, including the most influential voices from a major political party, want the United States to emulate his Russia.

1/
Some background:

After Russia enacted anti-homosexual legislation, Pat Buchanan said Putin was “entering a claim that Moscow is the Godly city of today" because he was stamping out western evils like easy divorce and homosexuality.
buchanan.org/blog/whose-sid…

2/
British right-winger Katie Hopkins, in an article in which she was interviewed with her friend Ann Coulter, said “Putin rocks.”

Katie Hopkins then went on to praise Russia as being “untouched by the myth of multiculturalism and deranged diversity."
