THREAD: Vogue Removes “Palestine” from Gigi Hadid Post, Caves to Anti-Palestinian Backlash
Soon after Vogue reported on Palestinian supermodel Gigi Hadid’s pledge to donate her earnings from fashion month to Ukrainians & Palestinians under occupation, Vogue altered the post.
Vogue removed Hadid’s mention of Palestine, incorrectly reporting that she would only be donating her proceeds to Ukrainians.
“I am pledging to donate my earnings from the Fall 2022 shows to aid those suffering from the war in Ukraine, as well as continuing to support those experiencing the same in Palestine,” wrote the conscientious and outspoken supermodel on Instagram.
On their own Instagram post reporting on Hadid’s, Vogue initially included the latter half of Hadid’s quote. But after the post was reportedly “bombarded” with anti-Palestinian comments, Vogue deleted the quote and any mention of Palestine altogether.
Vogue’s actions follow a history of media censorship around not only the subject of Palestine but the word “Palestine” itself.
Whether they are supermodels, academics, journalists, or artists, Palestinians deserve the right to say who they are and support their fellow Palestinians—who are experiencing Israeli war crimes daily—without censorship.

THREAD: US Is Willing to Sanction Russia for War Crimes—But Not #Israel
👇👇👇👇👇👇
In a show of solidarity with the Ukrainian people, many US businesses and lawmakers are calling for boycotts and sanctions against Russia for breaking international law by targeting and killing Ukrainian civilians, including children.
Similarly, Palestinians have been calling on the international community to use economic pressure to stop Israel's continuous targeting and killing of Palestinian civilians, including children, among other war crimes.
- Threw a stun grenade at a Palestinian child’s face, sending her to the hospital.
- Beat a Palestinian girl on camera.
- Injured over 31 Palestinians attempting to pray.
Yesterday, as #Palestinians arrived to pray at Al Aqsa mosque to commemorate a holiday, Israeli police officers attacked them by beating them, throwing stun grenades, and dispersing “skunk” spray, injuring more than 31 Palestinians, 4 of whom were hospitalized, including a child.
Last night, before dawn, Israeli soldiers killed 18-year-old Shadi Najim and 22-year-old Abdullah al-Husari after invading a Palestinian refugee camp in Jenin and opening fire on a group of local youth protesting the invasion.
As the world watches in horror at the violence inflicted upon the Ukrainian people, we join the growing call from people of conscious all around the world in #StandingWithUkraine. No matter who you are, all people have the right to safety in their homes and on their land.
Palestinians, like many people, know all too well the pain and suffering of military invasion and occupation. So when we see images from Ukraine we can’t help but empathize with another group that knows that pain too.
Everyone should be protected from violence. When people's homes and lives are under threat, anyone would fight to defend themselves and the ones they love.

Internationally known civil rights leader, Dr. Angela Davis has long expressed & acted in solidarity w/ the Palestinian people. Notably, in 2016 Davis released her book “Freedom Is a Constant Struggle: Ferguson, Palestine, and the Foundations of a Movement''.
Some things to remember as you discuss or report on what's happening in Palestine right now:
1. Under international law, East Jerusalem is Palestinian land that is illegally occupied by Israel.
2. Israel forcibly removes Palestinian families from their homes in East Jerusalem and encourages Jewish settlers to take over. There are more than 300,000 Jewish settlers living illegally on occupied Palestinian land in East Jerusalem.
3. Israel's policy when it comes to East Jerusalem is clear: reduce the number of Palestinians and increase the number of Jewish Israelis, also known as "Judaization." In other words, ethnic cleansing of Palestinians.
Israel’s destruction of the Salahiya family home is not an isolated incident.
It is part of Israel’s ongoing effort to steal Palestinian homes and land in order to replace Palestinians with Israeli settlers whose presence on Palestinian land is illegal.
It is the same goal that Israel was founded on when it violently expelled hundreds of thousands of Palestinians in 1948 in what is called the Nakba.
The Nakba never ended. Today it looks like what is happening to the Salahiyas.
But the Salahiyas are far from the only family who Israel is targeting.
Palestinians experience the Nakba every day through Israel’s relentless destruction of Palestinian homes, arrests, beatings, and killings.
