There’s nothing to fix

There is a traditional idea with pain and injury (they are completely different) that we are fixed by someone.

Despite the fact that the system of healthcare training is all about finding something to fix, a problem, and then fixing it.

Somewhere in there you may remember a person.

Let’s turn that on it’s head.
There is a person who is suffering. They decide that they need some help.

We don’t then fix them, although you might think you are because of the aforementioned training.
Instead, together with that person, we create the conditions to get better in all the different ways that this possible.

There is nothing to fix. But there is someone who is stuck and in need of growth.
They may find their own ways, but they may also need guidance and encouragement.

This we can do.

So, do you look through a deficit lens? Or a strengths lens?
What are the consequences?

My encouragement as you might expect, is the strengths lens. Seeing people’s qualities, successes and potential as the fuel for positive growth and hence recovery.

Next, clarify what you can do. What is realistic? Considering the circumstances.

Eg/ I want to go for a coffee with a friend.
