1/9 Ukrainian forces are resisting Russian assaults. Heavy fighting continues around Kyiv and in the South around the port of Mariupol and Mykolayiv. Russian troops continue shelling and aerial bombardments of cities.

2/9 13,000 people were evacuated through humanitarian corridors on 12 March but many attempts to rescue civilians or provide humanitarian aid were prevented, including in Mariupol where inhabitants of are deprived of water, gas and electricity.

3/9 President Volodymyr Zelensky informed that around 1,300 Ukrainian troops were killed since the beginning of the war. According to Ukrainian estimates Russian losses include 12 thousand soldiers, 58 planes and 362 tanks.

4/9 French President and German chancellor held a telephone conversation with Vladimir Putin but failed to persuade him to accept a ceasefire. President Macron declared additional sanctions would be discussed by the EU.

5/9 Deputy minister of foreign affairs of Russia threatened that arms convoys for Ukraine could become „legitimate targets”. In the early hours of 13 March missiles hit a military training ground in Yavoriv, near Lviv in Western Ukraine.

6/9 The European Commission disbursed €300 million of emergency macro-financial assistance to Ukraine. It is part of a package worth €1.2 billion adopted in January. President Zelensky emphasised that Ukraine urgently needed financial support.
