It would be a lie if I said I am shocked or numb. I am a Dogra from Jammu Kashmir. We know. We have always known. I am just so relieved that now you also know.

We knew in 1931 when Sheikh Abdullah who had recd higher education because of Maharaja Hari Singh’s scholarship stood on the pulpits of a Mosque and shouted Quit Kashmir targeting Dogras & the Hindu Dogra rule.

We knew because in 1947 the entire POJ (Mirpur, Kotli, Bhimber to Muzzafarabad belt) was annihilated of its Hindus & Sikhs. Women jumping into Kishenganga river after throwing their children first. Thousands were killed, women abducted, raped & sold by Pakistanis.

We knew & the neighbour pointing towards the rice barrel is not shocking because we saw that in 1947 when Muslim officers of JK State Forces of the Princely state betrayed the Maharaja, killed offficers like Col Narayan Singh Sambyal & showed the enemy the way to Kashmir.

We knew because Pt Nehru upon the insistence of ambitious, communal and insecure Sheikh Abdullah exiled Dogra Hindu Maharaja Hari Singh ji, the very man who signed the Instrument of Accession & made JK an integral part of Bharat.

We knew and were numb when in 1990 Kashmiri Hindus & Pandits victims of genocide fled & came to Jammu. A Jammu which was also oppressed, discriminated, voiceless & invisible. We were helpless in many ways but many, many did what they could do.

We knew because in late 1990s in Prankote & Dakikote, remote mountain villages in Jammu region 29 Hindus were beheaded & some of them burnt and charred beyond recognition when they refused to convert to Islam and eat beef. Children & women too brutally killed.

We knew the cries of help went unheard because it took 10 hours for the news of Prankote massacre to reach the authorities and 1 day for them to reach the village. The massacre forced migration of nearly 1,000 people to Reasi, Pouni Thanpal, Chasana and other towns of Reasi dist.

We knew because Doda & Kishtwar in Jammu have seen the most brutal massacres in late 90s where classification happened and Hindus were segregated and killed. Even throughout 2000s there have been killing of political workers and Sangh karyakartas.

I knew because I have seen so many Nivedita Menons and their eco system stonewalling our truth even as they peddled falsehoods & incomplete single stories. They have supported Art 35A & 370 even while being celebrated as champions of gender equality & justice.

We knew. We know. Now YOU know.
