Let’s talk about how Ginni Thomas—Clarence Thomas’ wife—played a critical role in trying to overturn the results of the 2020 election to keep Trump in power, a plot that involved her husband, and why he needs to resign from the Supreme Court or be removed immediately.
(Thread)
Ginni Thomas joined the board of the Council for National Policy in 2019, an activist group of old-school Republican luminaries, Christian conservatives, Tea Party members and MAGA operatives, which included leaders of the Federalist Society, the NRA & the Family Research Council
The CNP circulated the November “action steps” document, which instructed members to pressure GOP lawmakers to challenge the election results and appoint alternate slates of electors: “Demand that they not abandon their Constitutional responsibilities during a time such as this.”
If successful, this plan would have landed before SCOTUS—and Ginni’s husband. On Dec 2, Trump falsely claimed “millions of votes were cast illegally” & he hoped “the Supreme Court will do what’s right for our country, because our country cannot live with this kind of an election”
Since the founding of the United States, no spouse of a sitting Supreme Court justice has been as overt a political activist as Ginni Thomas. In addition to her position at the Council for National Policy, she founded a group called Groundswell with the support of Steve Bannon.
During his term, Trump courted Justice Thomas; and Ginni used that to gain access to the Oval Office, where her insistent policy and personnel suggestions made aides so aggravated that one called her a “wrecking ball” and others composed an opposition-research-style report on her
Justice Thomas has flouted judicial-ethics guidelines by participating in events hosted by conservative organizations with matters before the court. Those organizations have showered the couple with praise & used their appearances to attract event fees, donations and new members.
Many organizers of the Ellipse rally (which preceded the Jan 6th insurrection) and those advising Trump had connections to the Thomases, but little has been known about what role, if any, Ginni Thomas played. It turns out to be a much larger one than it even initially appeared.
Dustin Stockton, an organizer for ‘Women for America First,’ the group which held the permit for the Ellipse rally, said he was told that Ginni Thomas played a “peacemaking role” between feuding factions of rally organizers “so there wouldn’t be any division around January 6.”
“The way it was presented to me was that Ginni was uniting these different factions around a singular mission on January 6,” he said. Stockton had also worked for Bannon. “That Ginni was involved made sense—she’s pretty neutral, and doesn’t have a lot of enemies in the movement.”
As public repudiation of the insurrection grew to include some GOP leaders like McConnell, the CNP put out another memo in its newsletter that outlined strategies to try to make the Capitol riot seem more palatable. “Drive the narrative that it was mostly peaceful protests.”
Another aim was to “Amplify the concerns of the protestors and give them legitimacy.”
Since the insurrection, numerous friends and allies of the Thomases, even a former Thomas court clerk, have received subpoenas from the @January6thCmte investigating the siege on the Capitol.
But it gets worse. Ginni Thomas co-signed a letter in December calling for House Republicans to expel Representatives Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger from their conference for joining the Jan. 6 committee.”
In the letter, Thomas & her co-authors said the investigation “brings disrespect to our country’s rule of law” & “legal harassment to private citizens who have done nothing wrong,” and threatened that they would begin “a nationwide movement to add citizens’ voices to this effort”
A few weeks later, the Supreme Court ruled 8 to 1 to allow the release of records from the Trump White House related to the Jan. 6 attack to the @January6thCmte. Justice Thomas was of course the sole dissenter.
Ten months later, although their efforts to overturn the election failed, Ginni addressed a group of conservatives at the Heritage Foundation and smiled triumphantly as they celebrated her husband’s three decades on the court and the new 6-3 conservative majority Trump gave them
“What could I, Mitch McConnell, possibly know about a notable leader who is parsimonious with his public statements? Who shuns the performative aspect of public life? And is viewed as a boogeyman by the radical left?”
McConnell said. Thomas and the entire room laughed joyously.
This thread underscores how bottomless the corruption of our judicial system has been by the @GOP who used Trump to pack the courts with extremists and tip SCOTUS to potentially strip fundamental rights from marginalized groups, which republicans have salivated over for decades.
One of the main reasons people don’t trust the Supreme Court is that Republicans have consistently gone out of their way to steal seats and ram through blatantly unqualified Federalist Society approved candidates, all so that they can overturn extremely popular decisions like Roe
We also have almost no mechanism to hold Justices accountable for violating judicial guidelines or even breaking the law. Impeaching them is virtually impossible and they serve on the court for life so unless they willingly resign, they can do as much damage as they want.
Nonetheless, an exception should be made for Clarence Thomas. Both him and his wife’s actions are indefensible. He should be pressured from all sides to resign. And Ginni should be subpoenaed by the @January6thCmte & testify publicly about her role in organizing the insurrection.

.@RepCawthorn is having the worst week since his inauguration. Let’s talk about the nation’s youngest member of Congress. With any luck, it’ll help his constituents vote him out of office in November (assuming he’s even on the ballot since he’s constitutionally ineligible)
THREAD
Just this week:
—He was charged for driving with a revoked driver’s license (2nd time in 5 years)
—A recent video surfaced in which he called Ukrainian President Zelensky a “thug.” He also called the Ukrainian government corrupt
—He called @SpeakerPelosi an alcoholic/drug addict
Cawthorn’s past is a veritable minefield of lies, misogyny, treason, and serious criminal accusations/behavior.
From sexual harassment and assault to stolen valor to inciting an insurrection to attempting to take a firearm onto an airplane, this guy belongs nowhere near Congress
Trump recently claimed “There would be no NATO if I didn’t act strongly and swiftly! Let history so note!”
Trump’s actual history with NATO both before and during his term notes the exact opposite.
Let’s recap. Keep in mind weakening NATO has been one of Putin’s primary goals.
In one of Trump’s books published in 2000–‘The America We Deserve’—Trump claimed that the money we invest in NATO was a complete waste.
“America has no vital interest in choosing between warring factions whose animosities go back centuries in Eastern Europe,” he wrote.
During the 2016 election, Trump repeatedly exaggerated the U.S. contribution to NATO.
Then when he took office, he claimed that “hundreds of billions” of dollars had gone to NATO because of him, even suggesting some of the funds were provided to the U.S. None of this was true.
#G7 statement on #PutinsWar:
We, the Leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) are appalled by and condemn the large-scale military aggression by the Russian Federation against the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine, directed partly from Belarusian soil.
This unprovoked and completely unjustified attack on the democratic state of Ukraine was preceded by fabricated claims and unfounded allegations. It constitutes a serious violation of international law and a grave breach of the United Nations Charter and all commitments.
Russia entered in the Helsinki Final Act and the Charter of Paris and its commitments in the Budapest Memorandum. We as the G7 are bringing forward severe and coordinated economic and financial sanctions. We call on all partners and members of the international community to
