1/25 If you're not running your own node, you're trusting someone else's.

A guide on the @RoninDojoNode Tanto; the plug & play #Bitcoin full node that enables a private backend for @SamouraiWallet, Whirlpool, & more.

Full article from @BitcoinMagazine:

2/25 Tanto includes everything you need to get started + more. Comes pre-assembled & features a fan-less milled aluminum case, RockPro64 board, M.2 NVMe 1TB SSD, & pre-loaded with the @RoninDojoNode software. Image
3/25 The RoninSteel backup kit is included. A stainless steel plate specifically tailored for securing the @SamouraiWallet seed phrase & passphrase, protecting your secrets from fire & flood.

Check out the full guide from @BitcoinMagazine:
bitcoinmagazine.com/guides/how-to-…
4/25 Ships in an inconspicuous brown box with no labels, logos, or #Bitcoin related indicators. Simply apply the included rubber feet, plug an Ethernet cable into your router or switch, and plug in the power adaptor. Initialization starts automatically & takes ~10-minutes. ImageImageImageImage
5/25 For detailed startup instructions, visit wiki.ronindojo.io/en/setup/tanto…

Find the Tanto local IP address from a PC on the same network & enter it in your web browser. Follow the prompts to note your root credentials and create a password for your user credentials. ImageImageImageImage
6/25 Several services will automatically initialize, once complete navigate to the dashboard. The blockchain download has commenced and will take up to 3-days to complete. Your Tanto is getting all the transactions in the #Bitcoin blockchain from other nodes on the network. ImageImageImageImage
7/25 Once finished, it needs to be indexed so it's searchable. The indexing process starts automatically, can take 10-24 hours. If the status says 0% in the dashboard, just check the logs from the left-hand side menu, you'll see chunks of 2,000 blocks getting indexed. Image
8/25 Once Indexer is at 100%, click on "manage" in the lower left-hand corner of the Dojo window, this will bring up the QR codes needed to connect @SamouraiWallet & @BitcoinExplorer. Toggle the "display values" switch to make them legible. ImageImage
9/25 You can also log into your @RoninDojoNode User Interface (UI) from your mobile device with the Tor browser. Click on "manage" in the lower left-hand corner of the RoninDojo window to display that QR code. Use the same user credentials as the PC web interface. ImageImage
10/25 You can even copy/paste the @BitcoinExplorer .onion URL & password from the mobile @RoninDojoNode UI and then you have a full fledged mobile block explorer on your mobile device, getting it's blockchain data from your own node connected over Tor. Image
11/25 For Android users, download the @SamouraiWallet app via direct .apk, F-Droid repo, or Google Play Store. samouraiwallet.com/download

Once installed, select "mainnet". ImageImage
12/25 Follow the introductory in-app guidance. Select the directory for your encrypted wallet file then grant system access. Then toggle on Tor. ImageImageImageImage
13/25 Then toggle on the option to connect to your own Dojo and grant camera access then scan the QR code displayed in your @RoninDojoNode UI. Create new wallet or import existing wallet. Use a strong passphrase. ImageImageImageImage
14/25 It's a good idea to use the backup .pdf template at the least samouraiwallet.com/recovery

Or for more robust backup storage, use your included RoninSteel.

Never share these 12 seed words, write them down in order, keep them secure. Double check your passphrase, create a PIN. ImageImageImageImage
15/25 Say hello to your new PayNym, you'll use this for collaborative, chain analysis heuristic-destroying, transactions encrypted over Tor on the Soroban comms layer. Check out usecahoots.com for more details. Image
16/25 With your Tanto node setup & your wallet installed/connected/backed up, you can start using the Whirlpool CoinJoin implementation. This will break deterministic links to tx history & afford you forward looking anonymity. #bitcoin remains in your sole control at all times. Image
17/25 But wait, it gets better. You can install a Whirlpool GUI on your PC, connect it with your @RoninDojoNode and @SamouraiWallet then your UTXOs can continue re-mixing 24/7 FOR FREE even when you close your mobile app :)

Download the client from here:
samouraiwallet.com/download
18/25 Open an SSH session to your Tanto using the same user login credentials as the web interface. Navigate to Samourai Toolkit>Whirlpool>Start - to initialize Whirlpool. ImageImageImageImage
19/25 Then go back to the main menu and navigate to Credentials>Whirlpool - and use "Ctrl+Shift+c" to copy that .onion URL.

Open the Whirlpool application you installed on your PC and paste that URL where is says "CLI address". ImageImageImageImage
20/25 From @SamouraiWallet click the 3-dot menu in the upper right-hand corner, select Settings>Transactions>Pair to Whirlpool GUI. From the Whirlpool GUI, use your web cam to scan the QR code that pops up on your mobile. Then click on Initialize GUI on your PC. Enter passphrase. ImageImage
21/25 Initialize mixes from mobile by selecting the blue "+" sign>Whirlpool logo> then Whirlpool logo on the next screen too. Then select "Mix UTXOs", select the ones you want from your deposit wallet UTXO list, then hit "next". ImageImageImageImage
22/25 Select the cycle priority, pool size, and hit "review cycle details". If everything looks good then hit "begin cycle". ImageImage
23/25 Now you can close your mobile app and carry on with your day, meanwhile, your UTXOs will be re-mixing for free using your PC Whirlpool GUI and Tanto node. You'll see the mixing progress in your GUI. You can generate deposit addresses & set desired # of mixes from there too. ImageImage
24/25 With this kind of setup you are able to bring the power of a ZeroLink CoinJoin implementation with you in your pocket while communicating back to your own node at home over Tor. You can also connect with peers to make collaborative txs that preserve the anonymity gained.

22° F & 82% humidity. #BlackBox install finished. S19a Pro 110Th ticking like a Swiss pocket watch.

No duct work necessary, just run power & Ethernet. ~40dB from 15ft away. Carpet padding & soundboard liner inside.

Thank you @SGBarbour & the team @upstreamdatainc
The interior was unlined when I received it as the ideal materials are still being determined.
A Whatsminer M31S ran at about 82dB with no liner and the lid open. When the lid was closed, the #BlackBox attenuated the noise by about 24 dB.

1/20 Bringing your #Bitcoin node, wallet, & miner back into one cohesive device with the @FutureBit Apollo.

This thread is the short version of a more detailed guide that can be found on the @BitcoinMagazine website:

bitcoinmagazine.com/guides/how-to-…
2/20 The Apollo is a full #Bitcoin node running Bitcoin Core v22.0.0. It's also a Bitcoin miner equipped with 44 ASIC chips capable of producing ~3Th. Built on a 6-core CPU, 4GB RAM, 1TB SSD platform. The Apollo can go from delivery to hashing in 15-minutes & IBD in 2 days. Image
3/20 The Apollo runs quietly at ~25dB, installs by plugging in a couple cables & configures in a few clicks, very easy for a broad user base that may not want to manage the +80dB noise & +150° F temps of industrial-grade miners. This enables getting hash power into many hands.

This is what the disbursed #bitcoin donations to the Freedom Convoy truckers looks like on @oxt_btc
It appears 101 wallets were created on behalf of the truckers. Seemingly the first cluster was a test tx depositing 4,800 sats into each wallet. Followed a few blocks later with 400k sats to the same address in each wallet. Followed by 0.14 BTC, again same address used in each.
Only a few have been spent, 6 that I can count. Unfortunately, all of them to KYC exchanges.

Due to crowd funding platforms & payment service providers now falling under the Canadian Proceeds of Crime and Terrorist Financing Act, stakes are high. But it gets worse.

1/17 Build your own #Bitcoin home mining enclosure for under $150, with a 20dB attenuation.

A thread based on a DIY indoor version of @SGBarbour's #BlackBox
2/17 This thread is the short version of the full @upstreamdatainc DIY guide which can be found in this GitHub repo. Feel free to get in there, make pull requests for different materials you have tried, or to get different design variations included, etc.

github.com/econoalchemist…
3/17 The intent of the #BlackBox is to allow the user to run their mining ASIC hardware outdoors where the heat and noise could more easily be controlled or dissipated. Excessive heat & noise are common problems users experience when mining #bitcoin in the home or working space.
