🔥April mobilisation update!🔥
We proudly announce that hundreds of rebel scientists will carry out direct non-violent actions of civil disobedience in 27 countries across the globe in our rebellion week on 4-9 April. 🧵1/n
We will be joined by climate scientist Peter Kalmus @ClimateHuman, Ecologist Aaron Thierry @ThierryAaron, conservation scientist @CharlieJGardner, Earth Systems scientist Niko Froitzheim and many others willing to risk arrest to further the cause of climate justice. 2/n
Our rebellion has spread to Africa and we can count with many rebels there as well.
We can count on many activists in South and Central America, too. 4/n
We have finalised our demands after several collective meetings. You can sign our letter here along with hundreds of signatories: scientistrebellion.com/our-positions-… 5/n
Our talks series is underway. Top scientists gave stark warning on how bad the climate crisis is, and climate activists offered their recipes on how to act. You can book your place in remaining talks here: scientistrebellion.com/sr-talks-the-r…#SRTalks 6/n
We are already making news in Spain with top academics like @JorgeRiechmann joining our global strikes.
"We are living an absolute exceptional historical moment [...] The perspectives are of ecocide plus genocide, and we need a strong social reaction. "elconfidencial.com/medioambiente/… 8/n
Our rebellion week will also include climate strikes and industrial actions at various universities. As the system demands the continued misuse of scientists' intellectual labour even as the planet burns, we intend to show the power of withholding that labour. 9/n
Last but not least, please give generously to support our actions. Travelling to take action and preparing materials costs money, and we risk to pay hefty fines. Please consider helping us👉scientistrebellion.com/donate/ 11/n
We are scientists willing to tell the truth about the ecoclimate crisis, and act like it!
Please note that our group is horizontal, so statements may not reflect everyone's opinion all the times. 12/n
Don't believe politicians when they say that limiting temperature increase to 1.5°C is still feasible. 1.5°C is dead! We need a climate revolution or we'll lose everything. Join us on 4-9 April! #ClimateEmergency 14/n

I) "It takes time for students to reach positions of societal influence and for research to influence policy, so education and research pathways are poorly adapted to an emergency context"
II) "education and research ...are insufficient to catalyse [the required transformation] because they do not address either the processes that most powerfully influence political and policy change, or the forces that are so heavily invested in preventing [it]"
“In my career I've studied black holes and the evolution of galaxies, but there's little value in learning such things if they are to die with us.” (2/4)
“Scientists can drive real change if we're willing to be honest about the perils we face, the causes, and live like we really believe the science. That means opposing governments and others who are willing to sacrifice everything in order to maintain wealth and power." (3/4)
🧪TEACH-IN TODAY AT 2pm GMT
After a successful action on Saturday, blocking the King George V bridge for over 3 hours and making it clear that #COP26 is a complete failure,#scientistrebellion will be back at site today for a teach-in,telling the truth that COP won't tell you.(1/4)
Come and join us at 2 pm GMT at the south end of the King George V Bridge to hear why the following statements from COP are myths:
🌳 Planting a trillion trees will save us
🧬Carbon capture and innovation will save us
🌿Green growth will save us
🌏Governments will save us
(2/4)
We will also talk about why academics need to get involved in non-violent direct action against #climatechange along with some Scientist Rebels sharing why they got involved in activism. (3/4)
Scientists in open Rebellion at @COP26! Here some great shots from yesterday when have occupied the King George V Bridge! COP has failed, the people must go into civil resistance!
Despite being banned from the city center, we will be back on Monday with a teach-in from 2-4 on the South End of the King George V bridge. We will talk to the public in a puplic space about the hidden truths of the crisis we are in and what each of us can do to confront it.
