We live in the STUPIDEST timeline—#BA2 is rising and inevitably surging, yet many states close most of their mass testing sites even when public health experts warn it is TERRIBLE HORRIBLE NO GOOD VERY BAD idea. 🤦🏻‍♂️ #CovidIsNotOver

2) Dr. Anthony S. Fauci predicted on Sunday an “uptick” in coronavirus infections similar to the current increase in Europe, despite the current decline in cases.

nytimes.com/2022/03/20/hea…
3) It is “no time at all to declare victory, because this virus has fooled us before and we really must be prepared for the possibility that we might get another variant,” Dr. Fauci said.” “And we don’t want to be caught flat-footed on that.” nytimes.com/2022/03/20/hea…
4) The denialism attitude of many of a looming #BA2 increase is the same as those who deny the existence of the serious threat of climate change… or a hole in a boat.
5) Also, Testing sites provide health officials with data to anticipate new surges and variants in a way that at-home rapid tests cannot. (Though a critical tool in fighting the pandemic, at-home results are not always reported to official authorities)—home tests rarely reported!
6) Meanwhile, #BA2 cases surging in Austria— # Starting on Wednesday, FFP2 masks (Europe’s equivalent to American N95s) will be required in indoor spaces again, and the government would soon revise the isolation rules for infected people.

nytimes.com/2022/03/20/wor…
7) there is “no doubt” that the lack of N95 masks contributed to a lot of infections and hospital cross infections. Yet the CDC did nothing for mandating hospital to protect such workers.
8) countless advocates demanded the @cdcgov to require N95 masks indoors in public places. Yet @CDCDirector did nothing. NOTHING. Even when it admitted N95 masks very much superior to cloth. CDC completely dropped the ball. It’s so damn shameful, I lack words.

By @rachael_levy
9) I beg the @CDCDirector to not just react only when both cases and hospitalizations inevitably surge again—because we saw what is happening in England which had a similar large recent Omicron wave and has more people boosted than US—but now hospitalizations surging in all ages!
10) And in Denmark, which has one of the most boosted & among the highest recent Omicron waves recorded— and the earliest #BA2 invaded country in Europe— not only their deaths surging— but EXCESS DEATHS also radically high. You can’t cheat excess deaths with “from/with” excuses!
11) I’m not the only one angry and alarmed by the sheer “idiocy” that many leaders & health officials are displaying with regards to COVID. ‘Ostrich head in the sand’ approach won’t solve this damn pandemic!

📊Don’t be deceived by low case counts—

📌US has one of the lowest #COVID19 testing rates per capita

📌US testing has fallen substantially

📌Home testing + are almost never counted in official statistics

📌Wastewater shows plateau & reversal.

📌CDC risk levels mainly uses 🏥 Image
2) this is why we need to look beyond just the raw case counts. We have much more home testing that almost never reported and we are closing more mass testing sites around the country. We are running more and more blind.
3) Don’t allow others to gaslight you that everything is fine. Lots of dangerous denialists and minimizers will tell you to look away.

Look at this graph📈 & quote—“Let me try to say it politely. If you thought Covid was over, you’re an idiot. Sorry. I don’t mean to be rude, but people who bought this foolish notion, that “Covid is over,” need to get real”—by @umairh #CovidIsNotOver

2) “Covid’s surging again, around the globe. In Hong Kong, the line is almost vertical — and this time, we’re talking about deaths. Britain, Austria, France, Germany, Switzerland, China, South Korea, the Netherlands, — all countries where Covid’s spiking, yet again.”
3) “Finland has 85% more cases than last week. Austria has more cases now than at any point in the pandemic.”

The WHO says all this is just “the tip of the iceberg.” reuters.com/business/healt…

So, if I need to goto a hospital, I want to be safe and know I won’t be cross-infected. Yet, 20% of #COVID19 hospitalization today are **acquired in hospitals** after arrival! This is up 5x from ~4% in Jan. All HCWs need #N95–Yet CDC still does not require it! 🧵

HT @DrWilliamKu
2) Let this sink in— Some hospitals are asking patients and visitors to remove their N95 masks when they enter. 😱

The hospitals claim they're following @CDCgov guidelines. For many public health advocates, that's exactly the problem!!!

BREAKING—China has now confirmed its first #COVID19 deaths in over a year. China is grappling with sustained outbreaks in two-thirds of its provinces (>90 million in full or partial lockdown). Most of its cases are the new more contagious #BA2 subvariant. nytimes.com/live/2022/03/1…
2) meanwhile hospitalizations surging in England amid surging #BA2 where in England it is now dominant.
3) China is honestly at a major tipping point in the COVID war. They are on the precipice of either losing control versus barely hanging on. It’s much more nail biter than you think… I know what’s happening inside China… my thoughts 👇

Really overjoyed to see the WH launch the Clean Air in Buildings Challenge that calls on all building operators, schools, universities, & organizations to adopt key strategies to improve indoor air quality in buildings to reduce #COVID19. #COVIDisAirborne whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/…
2) this new clean air in building initiative is led by the EPA interestingly, rather than CDC or Labor. I think EPA is a good choice if it can turn guidelines into hard policy rules, not just voluntary suggested “guidelines” (like a pirate’s 🏴‍☠️ parlay). epa.gov/indoor-air-qua…
3) pretty solid guidelines here. Though wished they added Corsi-Rosenthal Boxes to the suggested disinfection list @CorsIAQ @JimRosenthal4!
