The event is still marked today. Before the State Opening of @UKParliament in July, members of the Yeomen of the Guard ceremonially searched the cellars of the House of Lords.
The Yeomen of the Guard is a bodyguard for the monarch and is the country’s oldest military force. They are led in the procession by a member of parliamentary staff carrying a key to the cellars.
The Ceremonial Search takes place before the King arrives in Parliament for the #StateOpening. It begins in the Prince’s Chamber before moving into the chamber of the #HouseOfLords, both pictured in this thread.
