🚙 Today I have been invited by the Bangkok office of TAT to join a Thai media trip to Pathum Thani. There will be seven stops along the way. This will be a live THREAD 🧵 of the one-day trip. Hopefully you will discover some new places near Bangkok. #BKKdaytrip#Thailand
[01] Wat Sri Samosorn in Pathum Thani province is a popular destination for people seeking wealth. Here you will find a unique 2.59 meter high Thaow Wessuwan Giant who is the God of Treasure.
The Thaow Wessuwan Giant at Wat Sri Samosorn is different to ones at other temples as he is holding a bag of gold coins and is guarding a treasure box at his feet. People pay respect by putting gold leaf on the statue. Red coloured items are also offered. #BKKdaytrip#Thailand
[02] After Dusit Zoo was closed they moved the animals out to zoos around the country while they built a new zoo in Thanyaburi District of Pathum Thani. They have now opened a Mini Zoo for free which is like an on-site showroom.

[03] Lunch today was at Florista Cafe and Eatery in Thanyaburi District of Pathum Thani. It’s marketed as an English-style rose garden and is obviously popular with the Instagram crowd. Food is great too.

[04] Wat Don Yai, in Lam Luk Ka District of Pathum Thani, is popular with people seeking good luck with the lottery. Of interest is the silver chapel with a large white Buddha inside. The building sits on a giant lotus flower.

[05] Wat Pa Charoen Rat is a meditation center in Pathum Thani. The main building, which is protected by giant mythical creatures, is built entirely of wood. Inside there are beautifully decorated wood carvings and a white Buddha.

[06] Khlong Sip Song 100 Years Market in Lam Luk Ka District of Pathum Thani. This is being developed to be a new weekend market. Only a few shops open so far but it has a lot of potential. The street art is great.

[07] Wat Sai Mai in Lam Luk Ka District of Pathum Thani has four Thaow Wessuwan Giants with different colors. You can pray to them for different desires such as money, health and success in a career.
🚙 I hope you enjoyed my photos from today’s trip in Pathum Thani Province. Here is the Google Map list of all the places that I visited today: google.com/maps/placelist…#BKKdaytrip#Thailand

This is the Paknam Observation Tower. The outside has been completed for several years now. But we are still waiting for them to finish the inside. However I heard that it is nearing completion and it should be opened to the public this year. THREAD.
These are some photos of the Paknam Observation Tower taken over the years. The foundation stone ceremony was in 2012. The first photo was taken in 2013. The last in 2016. It was scheduled to open in 2017. Note the Skytrain with no rails.
Tickets for the day excursion to the beach cost only 120 Baht in 3rd Class fan or double if you want air-con in 2nd Class. I prefer with open windows as easier to take photos. However, this time I’ve booked an inward facing seat as it gives more leg room for this 5 hour journey.
Breakfast on the train today is my usual. Stir-fried basil with minced pork. The cost with a fried egg was 30 Baht. Not the most generous of portions but good value for the price. Anyway, there will be more food opportunities later.
Good morning from Wongwian Yai Station in #Bangkok. Today I’m on a #BKKdaytrip to Samut Songkhram by train. This is a live THREAD 🧵 of the trip. Also follow @ThaiTrainGuide for more photos and information.
[3] Tickets for the one hour train trip to Mahachai (Samut Sakhon) are only 10 Baht in 2nd Class with fan. The seats are hard but it doesn’t really matter as the journey is short.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) has just issued a pilot notice (NOTAM) informing airlines around the world of the latest measures for air travel to #Thailand. This will be effective from 1st May 2022 onwards: caat.or.th/th/archives/64…

1. Passengers who have been fully vaccinated are able to enter #Thailand without having to do any COVID-19 testing. However, passengers are advised to do an ATK test if they have symptoms.
2. Passengers who have not been vaccinated or not fully vaccinated can do a RT-PCR test 72 hours before departure and will be able to enter the country without any additional COVID-19 testing. Otherwise they will be quarantined as ordered by quarantine officials for five days.
This morning, I took a boat trip from my resort on Koh Phi Phi Don to Maya Bay. Koh Phi Phi Lay has only recently reopened to tourists after been closed for just over three years. This is a short THREAD of that experience.
[2] Boats are no longer allowed to enter Maya Bay and moor on the beach. They can go to the entrance to the bay for taking pictures. Boats have to then go around to the back where there is a jetty. We were there at 9:30am and I counted 40 boats. Mainly long-tailed boats.
[3] As Koh Phi Phi Ley is part of the national park, you have to pay an entrance fee. 400 Baht for foreigners and 40 Baht for Thais. When you arrive at Maya Bay on the other side, there is a viewing platform to look down on the beach and a snack shop. #Thailand
