#AssamFiles -Myth of Bangladeshi illegal infiltration & Unspoken Atrocities on Bengalis in Assam: A 🧵to bring all the relevant facts so as to make people aware that the entire "Illegal infiltration" theory is based on political hoax.
There are wild claims by 'National' parties like Congress & BJP- on " Illegal Bangladeshi" immigrants across crossing over & staying in India ,however GOI has said it has No Data regarding this .
From 2015 to 2019 as per GOI data only 15000 Bangladeshis were given Indian citizenship , out of which 14,880 Bangladeshis being made citizens in 2015 after finding themselves living in Indian territory when the two countries agreed a land swap along the border.
Earlier there were sovereign enclaves within India & Pakistan of each states ,later b/w India & Bangladesh as a result of messy partition , it was resolved as recent as 2015 by exchange of enclaves & population as agreed by two sovereign countries. google.co.in/amp/s/www.hind…
There is a narrative that Illegal migrants are taking job in #Assam , if we take 2019 as cut off -Economic growth of India vs #Bangladesh -as per ADB report released in September 2019, Bangladesh had surpassed India as the fastest-growing South Asian economy.
In social development progress Bangladesh has performed better than India in infant mortality rates and life expectancy at birth.
The Global Gender Gap Index 2020 showed that India has slipped from 108th position to 112th, ranking well below Bangladesh which was 50th.Bangladesh fared better in terms of women's representation in parliament at 22%, compared with India at 13%. www3.weforum.org/docs/WEF_GGGR_…
Now the question arises why will a Bangladeshi come to India leaving their own country & specifically in Assam whose socio economic progress is worst among all states . google.com/amp/s/m.timeso…
Now coming to the question of the role of our security forces - Assam had insurgency for 15 years , AFSPA ( armed forces special power act ) is in force since November 1990 ,Assam has an additional Border police apart from BSF google.co.in/amp/s/amp.scro…
During independence areas like Barak ,Goalpara, Sylhet in Assam which were culturally & Geographically part of Bengal was merged with Assam .Assamese Language was imposed forcefully in violation of Constitution .
Protest for right to speak Bangla was crushed mercilessly by Assam govt in 1961 .Barak valley in Assam also saw a language movement where 11 people died but it was not merged with Bengal mridul-nandy.blogspot.com/2012/04/langua…
In 2019 After the completion of NRC 19 lakh people found they have declared "Illegal migrant".The NRC process was full of flaws & targeted bengali speaking population,a minor spelling mistake can also spell doom for a bengali. google.com/amp/s/www.news…
In October 2018 Terming the National Register of Citizens exercise in Assam as India’s internal affair, a top Bangladeshi official Friday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has personally assured premier Sheikh Hasina that people excluded from the NRC would not be deported 🇧🇩
This was again reteirated on March 2020 before Modis visit to bangladesh which was timed just before WB state election . google.com/amp/s/www.news…
The question arises -isn't it logical for a sovereign country to discuss / agree on the issue of migration with the sovereign country of " migrant origin" . Surprisingly no such talks ever held . google.com/amp/s/amp.scro…
The genesis of all this was Ex Assam Guv SK Sinha's flawed report .His report on "illegal immigration" in a state which was riddled with contradictions & dubious data was used for Gas lighting Xenophobia against Bengalis in Assam firstpost.com/india/ex-assam…
Even after NRC the xenophobia refuses to go, hate crimes have increased & now there is a state sponsor of hate crimes. The issue was never about " illegal immigrant" it is about a Xenophobic society & a genocidal state . bbc.com/news/world-asi…
