I’ve never shared these pics, I was mad they were taken at first. I am sharing now to try and wake some ppl up. It’s easy to see the # of people on ventilators and gloss over it. Seeing a loved one on a #ventilator torture. This is my dad. A 🧵1/
This is why it looks like for the first 7 to 14 days. It violently shakes them, you can’t help but imagine how much it hurts them even though your brain tells you they are sedated. You hold their hand but its like they aren’t there. You have no idea if they will make it. 2/
They are so weak you don’t know which outcome to hope for. After the 1st fewdays the dr says if they leave the vent in their throat it will permanently damage them, so they cut their neck to to a tracheotomy. You think the first day you saw them was the worst. You are wrong 3/
They mouth dries, their lips crack, and every day it kills you. You are never the same and neither are they. Dad was in the #ICU 6 weeks, hospital 110 days. He is not recovered to the man he was. He used to run a power plant, now can’t figure out a remote. 4/
dads stay was not for #COVID19 but the journey is the same& worse. the first days could only seen him through glass till his test. The numbers you see released today by @Gov_NB are not just numbers. They are people loved most dearly. They are just numbers to @premierbhiggs 5/
I cannot begin to explain in a tweet the horrible experience this was. It’s still traumatizing and I’m a lucky one my dad lived. Do not take these #’s lightly. Do not play the lottery of “odds are we will be fine” trust me when you lose, it won’t be worth it. You’ll regret it
This isn’t to trigger anyone. It’s to share my pain, so you don’t shrug off the risk to the people of #NewBrunswick It will never ever happen to you, until it does. #nbpoli
To be clear this was over a year ago. Dads in a nursing home in a #covid19 outbreak. He won’t survive a ventilator again, we were told that after this experience. Please don’t risk your loved ones lives, or anyone else’s.
