I am tired of empty words,
promises, praise. I’ve been in the climate movement since I was 14 and now I’m 20. Throughout my whole time in the movement I’ve heard empty words on climate.
The #IPCCReport shows us empty words haven’t solved anything.
When people said “the youth are so inspiring” I thought that meant we were on track to make a real difference. When leaders met with youth organizers and the streets were full of people marching for climate justice I thought there was no way our cries would be ignored.
In high school I thought it was sincere, all of the promises, all of these leaders and companies saying that they cared.
It’s only recently that I realized there was something much more insidious going on.
The Youth Climate Movement ᵀᴹ began to feel less like a movement for progress and more like a game show at the end of the world.
Who are the child stars giving their hot takes while the world burns?
Brands scrambling to cash in on what was clearly becoming a lucrative enterprise, leaders posing for their photos with The Youth Activistsᵀᴹ while they continue to worsen the climate crisis and our governments pour billions into fossil fuel subsidies.
The Youth Climate Kidsᵀᴹ became a poster child for hope — but what if the ones who are supposed to give hope run out of it?
What if they’re tired of being the hope because they never were?
Hope comes through action.
Hope comes through tangible steps taken in the right direction, and right now our governments are taking steps in the exact opposite direction than we need to be.
Leaders might be talking the talk on the climate crisis, but when it comes to putting their money where their mouth is, the investment is in the destruction of our planet.
According to the EESI’s Fossil Fuel Subsidies Fact Sheet, “Conservative estimates put U.S. direct subsidies to the fossil fuel industry at roughly $20 billion per year; with 20 percent currently allocated to coal and 80 percent to natural gas and crude oil.”
I’m tired of empty words. I’m not here to give hope where I don’t see any.
If leaders are serious about their support for a livable planet, if they really are choosing life and their children over the fossil fuel industry, then the money needs to be saying that.

I will be voting for the #BidenHarris Presidential ticket, and I hope you will join me.
If you think the first 4 years of Trump were bad….we don’t want to find out what damage 4 more years will do.
.@realDonaldTrump has refused to enforce our bedrock environmental laws, sabotaged the Environmental Protection Agency, and is trying to drill in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, which is sacred to the Gwich'in people.
Please stop celebrating the #coronavirus as some sort of blessing in disguise simply because pollution has gone down due to quarantines.
“The weak will die but it’s okay because it helps the climate” is not climate justice.
That is Ecofascism.
Ecofascism is a dangerous ideology that sees crises like #COVID19 that kill vulnerable people as good because in their minds it's "good for the planet when people die."
But "overpopulation" is not the problem here! Climate change was caused by corporations not "too many people."
The lifestyles of the richest 0.54% in the world — 42 million people — are emitting more greenhouse gas emissions than the poorest half of the global population —3.8 billion people.
Adults, do you understand how often it is that young women activists get horrible messages & attacks from grown men?
It’s time we speak out about this!
Young womxn activists, if you feel comfortable sharing, comment below if you have faced any inappropriate attacks by adults.
I don’t like to talk about this but with the recent show of violence against #GretaThurnberg I need to talk about it so we as a society can stop this behavior.
Sometimes I get social media messages by men talking about how they would like to see me and Greta raped & killed.
Thank you to the hundreds of people who turned out to rally last week at Kennedy Catholic High School in solidarity with the beloved #LGBT teachers who were forced to resign because they married their same-sex partners 💪🏼.

Last weeks rally was a great show of support for the #LGBT community & proof that religion doesn’t have to be about looking down on queer people.
Many people have said to me “Of course there’s homophobia in the Catholic Church, there’s no point in protesting it.” But....
I refuse to let that continue. Religious institutions are run by people & people have the power to change. There is no reason that homophobia should be perpetuated in religious institutions. There is no reason that “being religious” & “being homophobic” should be interchangeable.
