The commander of #Russia's Central Military district reframed the "new phase" of the "special op" in #Ukraine as having three goals:
- Donbass
- Southern Ukraine (including access to Transnistria)
- Land bridge to Crimea
So just how realistic is this? In the longer-term, if Russia had all the time in the world, it could prove a realistic objective (certainly far more realistic than taking Kyiv in a few days). But time is not necessarily on Russia's side.
I personally think that there are signs #Russia is not "taking its time", and that there is indeed some pressure on the Russian military to achieve something in the coming weeks.
🚩The commander of the 36th Separate Marine Brigade released a new message from the besieged Azovtal Plant, saying they are facing their "last days, if not hours"
The Luhansk governor reported another attempt to capture Severodonetsk and Rubizhne last night. He claims those failed.
Today the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that it begun a new phase of #Russia's "special operation" in #Ukraine, claiming that it aims to fully capture the Donetsk and Luhansk provinces
As of now, the offensive did not lead to any significant change (still early). It started with a heavy artillery barrage. Russia also claims to have carried out a series of "high-precision" missile strikes on targets in the Donbass.
I do think we should be careful with throwing around the term genocide, but brushing it aside because the two people are "brothers" is the dumbest argument
There is a question of intent that I think requires investigation (and I do think some elements points to the systematic elimination of people as I've said before) and clear war crimes being committed.
I do think there is a broader problem with people thinking only a genocide should prompt a response (which is why we tend to jump to genocide). We should act before that, focusing on "genocides" as if this was the end all be all of international triggers is dangerous
🚩Yesterday the Azov battalion unit in Mariupol claimed three of its fighters were wounded following the use of chemical weapons dropped from a drone, leading to respiratory distress - No further evidence so far, all reports are tied to this statement.
The #Russian Ministry of Defense claims to have used the #Kinzhal supersonic missile against a Ukrainian HQ in Chasov Yar in the Donetsk region yesterday
