incredible atmosphere at @Mon4Kooyong’s #MonHQ tonight.

more then 120 volunteers and 45 pizzas…

#KooyongVotes
by some weird coincidence, 7.5% of everyone present was called “peter”.

#Peters4Mon
…the very first (postal vote) ballot was marked and celebrated…

#Mon4Kooyong #KooyongVotes
#MonHQ was pumping, spilling out on the glenferrie road…
…meanwhile, another quiet evening at @JoshFrydenberg’s #GhostOffice.

#KooyongVotes #ausvotes

📢 @climate200 update!

just after 4pm on wed 13/4 we welcomed our 10,000th donor.

just after 8am on thurs 14/4 our donation tally passed through $10m.

we've chosen to support 22 community backed independents at the coming federal election.

climate200.com.au/candidates #ausvotes
when i launched @Climate200's #AusVotes22 campaign a little under 8 months ago, my audacious goal was to raise $2–3m from a few hundred people and support maybe 7 candidates.

thanks to the overwhelming support from 10,000 donors, we’ve been able to select 22 great candidates to support for #AusVotes22.

every campaign started from within the local community (independent of C200) and is backed with hundreds and in some cases over 1000 volunteers.

👇 good questions @JohnRuddick2.

first some background…

in 2015 practically every country signed on to the #ParisAgreement — a global compact to limit global warming to well below 2°C and preferably to 1.5°C.
delivering on this agreement basically requires achieving net-zero globally well _before_ 2050.

arguably australia effectively agreed to net-zero before 2050 back in 2015, 7 years and 2 prime ministers ago.
australia has a special interest in the paris agreement:

at 2°C warming we can expect to lose 99% of coral reefs — which are bleaching as i write.

…and, as we have been repeatedly warned, higher temperatures bring about increased frequency and severity of fires and flood.

predictably, @LiberalAus henchmen sending their #CrumbMaidens after me.

last election they set @SenatorHume🍷 on to me, this election it's @SenSHenderson.

here's her incoherent argument that @climate200 should bail out the pensioner who @JoshFrydenberg is trying to bankrupt: 🤷‍♂️
a diversion

michael, a constituent & activist with a heart of gold, crowdfunded a legal challenge against @JoshFrydenberg's s44 sloppiness in 2019.

his key witness mysteriously disappeared days before court case. michael failed provide sufficient proof.

smh.com.au/national/fryde…
years later the treasurer, who received pro-bono legals, claimed almost $1m in legal fees.

michael is a pensioner, carer for his sick wife and his recently widowed mother.

yet the treasurer is using the full force of the law to destroy him, and mobilising his #CrumbMaidens.

💥BREAKING 💥 @senbmckenzie on @abcmelbourne:

@ScottMorrisonMP has made it clear that he won’t be legislating net-zero by 2050.

…also says everyday australians have been reducing their emissions by 20% — which, sadly, is a lie. #auspol
if you want to know why the 20% claim is effectively a lie, please read this thread.

[sad thing is, none of the MPs understand this… they just parrot the talking points provided by minister for emissions r̶e̶d̶u̶c̶t̶i̶o̶n̶, @AngusTaylorMP🤥.]

anyone handy with animations? here's my rough outline:

zoom to photo angus taylor. voice: "minister for emissions reduction has done more to slow down emissions reduction than anyone else."

zoom to his wife: "hard-right warrior #LouiseClegg reckons australian plebs need more blackouts so that we might better appreciate coal. lou is on the board of hard-right think tank sydney institute… run by gerard henderson"
zoom to gerard: "widely referred to as gollum, gerard periodically emerges from his crypt to grumble about everything good. gollum hates @climate200, having written about it twice in two weeks…"

.@parnellpalme's column today warrants some comment in reply.

firstly, the trope that there aren't many direct jobs in renewables once the construction crew has left town…

read on for why this is a misconception…

smh.com.au/national/when-…
the example given by @senbmckenzie is the moree solar farm, which apparently only has 5 direct employees.

that's very few, but it's a small facility… it only generates ~0.15 TWh/yr, or 33 employees/annual-TWh.
kogan creek coal power station has 111 direct employees and generates ~5.2 TWh/yr, or 21.3 employees/annual-TWh.

(older coal power stations are much less efficient. eg. yallourn in victoria has 500 employees for 8.9 TWh last year = 56 employees/TWh.)
