DeSantis’ spokespeople have been furiously tweeting and emailing that “partisan” media are making up “hypotheticals” and promising he’ll “fix” all the #ReedyCreek#Disney problems. But my articles & others like it are the ones dealing w/reality & law as it currently exists. /1
They’re the ones who passed a bill w/o a plan, who have been promising a plan for days & still have nothing to show. They promise Central FL taxpayers we won’t have to pay any extra taxes if RCID is dissolved. How?! /2
The laws on the books right now state that #ReedyCreek dissolves 6/1/2023 & their municipal bond debt will be transferred to the taxpayers of Orange & Osceola County. That’s not a hypothetical. It’s reality. /3
Even if DeSantis’ team does have a plan, when exactly are they going to do it? The 1-week special session in May is already going to be a circus with the unresolved property insurance issues. Hurricane season starts June 1, so this is a priority! /4
We’re still litigating over the Congressional district maps. And the primaries are in August. General election in November. When, pray tell, is DeSantis going to “fix” this problem he caused? Neglect the property ins. issues? Another special session in June? Come on. /5
And actually getting into tax policy, especially when it involves multiple jurisdictions like this RCID issue, is highly complex. Any bill for the May special session would be rushed & unlikely to actually solve the problem or hold up to court scrutiny. /6
I’m wondering if what we’ll hear soon is “Re-elect us & we totally promise we’ll fix it in the 2023 general legislative session.” Because there’s no time to fix it this year, unless they just completely repeal what they did last week. And that won’t win the culture war. 🤔 7/7

If you're short on time, read this article. It's got a summary of the #ReedyCreek bill and problems it will cause, plus links to my other work. mediaite.com/opinion/anothe…
For those wondering why I'm spending so much time & energy on this, here are the top 3 reasons: 1. 5 generations of my family have lived in FL. I was born & raised in Orlando. I live here now. I love my hometown. 🍊 2. I love free speech. 🇺🇸 3. I hate bullies. 💪🏻
150+ companies signed a letter opposing HB1557 *before* it passed. None of them were targeted by FL Republicans w/retaliatory legislation.
Disney issued a press release *after* the bill passed…and cut off political contributions. 🤔 hrc.org/press-releases…

Let's dig into this. One of the main points = Reedy Creek Improvement District (RCID) is SUPER complicated & has been around for over 50 years. It's a >$100 million annual operating budget to provide services over a 25K+ parcel that stretches across 2 counties. /2
Orange County includes Orlando and several other well-developed suburbs and cities. Osceola remains far more rural outside of the tourist corridor. Both counties are currently facing significant challenges related to skyrocketing housing prices, transportation needs, etc. /3
Here’s your 4/11 article. As I wrote in an email to you over 4 hours ago, I appreciate the link & credit for my reporting, but I do NOT appreciate the multiple sections that are taken verbatim from my article without proper designation as quotes. /2 nypost.com/2022/04/11/war…
Specifically, the entire middle section appears to have been cut-and-pasted from my writing, with only minimal changes & certainly well below any reasonable threshold to avoid constituting plagiarism.
Here are some screenshots, your article first, then mine./3
THREAD, PLEASE SHARE: This is my awesome friend Shanta Barton-Stubbs with some of the kids at the @NewImageYouth youth center she founded to help kids in the Parramore neighborhood of our hometown of #Orlando. /1
I first became aware of Shanta's great work with NIYC in 2018, when Orlando was facing an (unusual for us) freezing cold spell, and she was organizing a coat drive for the children. I wrote about it for @TheCapitolist. /2 thecapitolist.com/with-freezing-…
I've been using my Amazon affiliate money to send a few Amazon brand zip up fleece coats to the kids each year. The coats are a soft warm fleece, they hold up well, and are machine washable. They're cute and cozy. /3
Pushaw accuses Farrington of spreading “BlueAnon” “conspiracy theories.” But the article doesn’t actually quote or reference any of the many, many Democrats we all know would be perfectly happy to slam DeSantis. He also didn’t discourage Regeneron use. /2
Pushaw repeatedly called Farrington a “liar” & said his article contained “lies.” Where are the lies, @ChristinaPushaw? What EXACTLY is inaccurate in the article? Be specific. Quote what’s wrong. Here’s the link again to help. /3 apnews.com/article/joe-bi…
As I wrote four year ago and I say again today, I would have LOVED to have been wrong about Trump. It would’ve been great if he had stumbled with Forrest Gump-like luck into greatness. Instead, he was worse than I expected, and bad in ways I could never have anticipated. 1/6
I broke down into tears several times on January 6 while watching the horrifying news coverage. It was my least favorite day of writing ever (and I’ve experienced the singular horror of briefly working for one of the people on Trump’s pardon list). 2/6
There is no joy in “I told you so” when it comes to being #NeverTrump today. Every flaw and weakness of his that I predicted, and every one I didn’t, has had profoundly dangerous and tragic consequences for our country. 3/6
