A THREAD :

Why Somalia needs change from Farmaajo’s and Khaire’s ruinous reign;

They were given power and trust and they showed — for five years ( Farmaajo) and three years (Khaire) — that they were not leaders but angry/showy small p politicians;

Somalia needs change;

1/7
Because of their lack of leadership Farmaajo & Khaire unleashed — unnecessarily — hyper-polarization among the Somali society & the political class. This has created 5 years of gridlock, hatred disorientation & stagnation;

Somalia needs change; they do not represent change;
2/7
Because of Farmaajo & Khaire’s MISPLACED priorities, Al Shabaab thrived & killed more civilians under their watch, AS extort money from almost every business in #Mogadishu & attack at will any place in the capital; last week they attacked parliamentarians inside Villa Somalia
3/7
Farmaajo & Khaire normalized impunity; under their reign of power abuse citizens including women were killed, some were made disappear, other renditioned to torturers & political assassinations were covered up under Farmaajo’s watch; suspects were rewarded!

Time for change;

4/7
Farmaajo & Khaire disregarded the constitution & intervened all institutions (parliament & judiciary included) to get rid off those who refused to do their bidding. Farmaajo stayed in office for a WHOLE year illegally!

Somalia needs a leader who believes in the constitution;
5/7
Farmaajo ruined the great relationship Somalia had with the world and developmental partners; even the U.SA. —?Somalia’s biggest donor has probably imposed travel ban on him; under his reign Somalia’s friends were reduced to 3 countries ;

6/7
Farmaajo did not build institutions; he changed army, NISA & police commanders 4 times If not 5 times.

He replaced his OWN chief of staff 7 times! That is not the strategy of institution builder;

Enough of Farmaajo’s anger & Khaire’s theatrics;

Somalia needs change

#XisaabXir doorasho (1/4)

Farmaajo sida tartanka guddoonku laga arkay 98 ayuu haysTEY; 12 senate-ka ah wuu heli karaa; 10 codna waa u biiri karaan =120 cod;

#Yuruuruca doorasho kasta 100 cod ayay khasaariyaan;

Jilib-culuska kale, 3 rajo leh & 4 samri la’, 110 cod ayaa u haray
2/4
Jilib-culuska waxaa dhex yaal 110 cod HADDABA, ragga la hadal hayo & 4ta ku daba-dhaggan oo anagaa soo baxayna ku haya, sidee ayay u kala qaybsan doonaan wareegga 1aad — illayn suuragal ma aha in nin kasta yiraahdo 70 cod baan ka kacayaa oo hal 70 ayaa ku jira 110-ka code! Image
3/4

Haddaba, tee ayay u dhow dahay;

1. In Farmaajo 120 MP dhaafi waayo oo washamsi lagu qaado; isaga oo taas ogna uu tartanka galo;

2. Inuu fashilka ka cabsado oo aanu ka qayb galin doorashada;

3. Inuu 70 MP ee ka dhiman uu kiiba siiyo $400 oo kun oo $30-koo milyan uu bixiyo Image

Many are wondering if there is a parallel between what is happening in #Afghanistan and what could happen in #Somalia as the weak and the strife-ridden Afghanistan government —propped up by the west for two decades — crumbled and the Taliban swiftly ascended to power.

1/7
There are similarities & differences between Afghanistan & #Somalia

Similarities: Somali government is too weak to fend for itself & if the African Union troops were to withdraw, the gov would probably loose control of the towns surrounded by Al Shabaab, including #Mogadishu
2/7
Difference: unlike Taliban which could be seen as Afghan opposition group who want to run that country, Al Shabaab is Al Qaeda-affiliated transnational outfit whose vision is NOT to takeover & rule Somalia but to engage a global war against west & their ‘local client states’

A rejoinder to @1PolicyWonk previous THREAD:

This is how to read #Somalia’s election impasse. It’s about numbers: 329 MPs & senators who will vote for the next President.

Mr. Farmaajo wants to scheme/force/dictate a process that will secure him majority of these 329 voters
1/5
As per the attached media reports, Mr. Farmaajo has already rigged 3 state- level elections: 2018 in Southwest, January 2020 in Galmudug & November 2020 in Hirshabelle. Leaders he produced from those states are now his staunchest allies in the current election debate.
2
If the federal election process is fixed as Mr. Farmaajo schemes then there will be no election. It will be crowning a schemer and the beginning to dictatorship.

This is not acceptable.

Thus the opposition is telling him: The integrity of the federal election is a redline.

Federal Government of #Somalia exists because of the support it gets from the international community starting with the 20 thousand AU troops that protects FGS & its leaders & allied FMS. Without UE & western countries bankrolling AMISOM, there will be no FGS. That is a fact.
1/4
International community provide ammunition, training & food for the Somali army.

Somalia needs IC for lifting of arms embargo

IC feeds, educates & provides healthcare to millions of Somalis whom FGS cannot help.

IC forgave a billion dollar loan & is working on debt relief.
2/4
All democratic & affluent countries are facing a deadly pandemic that is depleting their finances.

Globally resources for foreign aid/investment is cut & understandably dwindling.

Global hotspots, humanitarian disasters & other fragile states are competing for IC’s support.

Up to now, 110 political parties registered (provisionally) in #Somalia,

#Somalis want a democratic state;

The current dispute & delay over the indirect election is due to ONE factor: the outgoing president is scheming to openly and unabashedly engineer his reelection;
1/5
The outgoing Prez had a freehand in 3 local elections and he rigged them ALL, hence the VITAL & sacred duty to protect the national election;

In the #Southwest election, he arrested one contender and exiled the other & when the UN envoy said this is not good, he was PNG-ed;
2/5
During elections in #Hirshabelle & #Galmudug, no credible contender stood against Farmaajo allies because the process was rigged & outcome was already known;

THUS:

#Puntland, #Jubaland & #Mogadishu Opposition are the bulwark against a dictatorship in Somalia; I solute them;
