The #U4U#unitingforukraine program is riddled with administrative issues. We navigated the process to the border relatively smoothly (considering @USCIS is generally opaque). However, at the border @CBP had not yet been informed as to the process.
The @JoeBiden announcement and @DHSgov have clearly indicated that this is a #humanitarianparole program for #Ukrainian citizens. However, at the border, @CBP claimed internal guidence said @B2 travel visa OR Humanitarian Parole.
They granted Max the B2. We are delighted he is safe here with us. However, the differences between B2 and humanitarian parole are HUGE. The B2 allows for only 6 months, then he must return. #RussiaUkraineWar may last longer. @JoeBiden promised 2 years of Humanitarian Parole.
On the B2, Max will also be precluded from working, driving, travelling, and other essential parts to functioning in society. He wants to contribute to America while here and learn new skills to take back to #Ukraine when #RussianWarCrimes stop.
As of now, neither @DHS#USCIS or @CBP has a system in place to correct this mistake. These organizations MUST update their process to align with the presidential decree and create a process to correct mistakes made by @CBP agents in these early weeks.
