99.01/ Week ninety-nine, June 6-10, 2022, thread begins here.

Week 98 below.
99.02/ A good example of living in two worlds, religious and secular, is the coincidence of two sacred days: the 2nd day of #Shavuot on #DDay. Last night, after Yom Tov, only after reading the news a bit did my mind shift from "sacred to my religion" to "sacred to my citizenship"
99.03/ Pedantry Corner: it irks me to read divrei Torah about #Shavuot that enshrine incredibly recent customs as facts to derive universal truths. "This is the reason why Jews stay up all night..." or "why we eat dairy" - nope. Please don't make fads into load-bearing verities.
99.04/ This is the best time of the calendar IMO: the roughly 40 days between #Shavuot and #17thTammuz, when the weather is good, school is basically over, vacations are acceptable, and there's no gloominess on the (contemporary) calendar. We need a name for this z'man.
99.05/ I agree with this analysis. I'll add: both extremes don't believe in "consent of the governed" and that's why they try to use force to gain control, often for some delusional "greater good"
99.06/ For people who want simple* tasks on how to improve themselves, here's one: eliminate from your worldview any form of "victim-blaming."

Doing that will increase your humility & compassion and help you actually help others.

*'simple' doesn't mean 'easy'
99.07/ This is a good step in the right direction

99.10/ Thank you to all the brave live-tweeters who were able to keep me updated about the committee hearing tonight. I couldn't stomach watching the videos again, but I felt immersed in the horror. This is what Twitter is great for.
99.11/ #NachasAlert: The write-up of the RPRY dinner where my family was honored.

(Note, there were two cameras and I chose the right one to look at.)

99.12/ #Naso reminder, based on Cypesian Minhag, this is a double-parsha of Naso & Vayimshach. See below.

99.13/ Before #Shavuot, our friends gave us a gift of kosher Dulce de Leche from Chile. If there's an equivalent of the "Scoville scale" for sweetness, this would top the scale. My son said it tasted like a Twix without the cookie, so eureka! Spread it on tea biscuits! The container of Dulce de L...
99.14/ #ChochmatNashim for #Naso

99.15/ Trying to create a joke where Yeshayau, Hoshea, Yishayahu and Yehoshua meet Yishmael, Shmuel, Shimon and Shaul in a bar.
99.16/ I mentioned above about the live-tweeters of the Jan 6 hearing. This thread was particularly useful this morning.
99.17/ Still trying to catch up from #Shavuot; I had half the time but double the work this week. Wishing everyone a great Shabbas. Stay safe and #ShabbatShalom

98.01/ Week ninety-eight, May 28-June 3, 2022, thread begins here. #YomYerushalayim Sameach!

Week 97 thread below.
98.02/ Valuable thread about the gun industry and I learned from him an excellent term I will now incorporate into my social theory: Agnotology = "the cultural production of ignorance."
98.03/ Wow: "The science is abundantly clear: More guns do not stop crime. Guns kill more children each year than auto accidents. More children die by gunfire in a year than on-duty police officers and active military members." (Scientific American)

Week 96 below.
97.02/ #ShavuaTov everyone. My wife texted from Israel that she got positive PCR test when she landed in Israel - one day before they rescinded that requirement! She's asymptomatic, thank God, but I just don't know how it could've been avoided b/c the 'rona is rampant y'all.
97.03/ It was in the 90s today and my downstairs A/C broke days ago and I can't get a guy here until Tuesday. I told them they can prioritize others because my upstairs A/C works, Thank God, so it's not a safety issue for us. But I wouldn't mind it getting fixed soon.

#PesachSheni Sameach!

Week 95 below.
96.02/ Because we are.

And it's about the same people. The GOP is the Confederacy right down to the rotten core of cowardly rebels.
96.03/ It's really this simple. And b/c it's actually this simple, it's clear anti-voters don't understand citizenship & shared responsibility like I do.

They're like anti-vaxers that way. In this way too: both threaten all our lives when they opt out.

Week 94 below.
95.02/ Them: "What will I tell my kids?!"

Me: "Talk to them, teach them, it's part of the role of parent. I do it all the time."

My kids: "Yes! He does! Please make him stop!"

Me, distributing handouts: "OK, on page 3, we have fieldnotes I took in '95..."

Kids: "Nooooo!"
95.03/ Hey, I think I got the @HowieRose trivia question for the first time today (Q: which Rolling Stones song mentions the Kentucky Derby. A: "Dead Flowers"). But I refuse to believe this is one of Howie's favorite songs. It's purposefully terrible, man. It's just awful.

Week 93 below.
94.02/ Health update: still no symptoms from my bout with COVID except for general irritability but it's impossible to know if it's different from my normal state. Isolation is lonely (big, if true) but my overall emotion is fear of making someone else sick. Dread is the worst.
94.03/ I see the #Mets won (this is a fun season so far, especially since I'm not the one getting hit by fastballs in the head) and the #NYR won and are ready for the playoffs. Best of all is post-#NFLDraft Sat. night when I get to see all the gifts my team gave me as a fan. #LGM

Week 92 below.
93.02/ Happy chametz-fressing for all who celebrate. Personally, I need to wait until 11pm for reasons passing all understanding. A box of donuts
