Let's talk about the EU Sustainable Finance #Taxonomy, what it is, why it's needed and why #nuclear energy must be included if Europe is to meet its climate goals.

The @EU_Commission states that the #taxonomy is necessary, "In order to meet the EU’s climate and energy targets for 2030 and reach the objectives of the European green deal"

They also state that the "#taxonomy is a classification system, establishing a list of environmentally sustainable economic activities. It could play an important role helping the EU scale up sustainable investment and implement the European green deal."

Continue... "The EU taxonomy would provide companies, investors and policymakers with appropriate definitions for which economic activities can be considered environmentally sustainable."

So why should #nuclear be included in the #taxonomy? Let's explore that.

Firstly, as @BillyKelleherEU points out, 50% of carbon free ⚡️ comes from nuclear & it provides 26% of electricity across the EU.

The Joint Research Centre which is the @EU_Commission's science and knowledge service investigated #nuclear and found that it met the requirements of the #Taxonomy.

The findings in the JRC report are backed up by evidence from the @IPCC_CH & a @UNECE lifecycle analysis which found #nuclear has the lowest environmental footprint.

So the science supports the inclusion of nuclear energy but what about the people of Europe?

We encourage MEPs to listen to the science & people of Europe & vote to include nuclear in the taxonomy.
