The report reveals year-by-year Twitter data on the systematic & hateful #disinformation that targeted Syrian human rights defenders, @SyriaCivilDef, doctors & war crimes victims, sometimes endangering their lives- & how govt's & social media companies are failing to stop attacks
Despite a trove of evidence of torture, chemical weapons & the bombing of civilians by the Syrian regime & Russia, a small number of conspiracy theorists, aided and inspired by Russian disinformation, have managed to distort the facts & sow doubt among the public & policymakers 
The report is based on data by @ISDglobal who analyzed 47,000 tweets spreading disinformation on Syria between 2015 and 2021, as well as interviews with people targeted by disinformation, policymakers & experts. It traces a timeline to illustrate the human cost of disinformation
We found that clear spikes of disinformation targeting Syrian humanitarians and human rights defenders coincided with online moments and real-word events, especially around the intense siege of Aleppo and chemical weapons attacks
The report identifies 10 impacts of online disinformation in the real world 🌍 from denying war crimes, to legitimizing governments' anti-refugee policies, to justifying the targeted killing of humanitarians by the Syrian regime & Russia
