Thread: The National Gallery of Ireland is one of the finest collections of art, with a rich & superb collection. Artists represented range from Vermeer to Velázquez. I’ve been visiting for over 40y. Here’s why! Image
Andrea Mantegna was an important Renaissance artist. This portrait of Francesco Gonzaga has been attributed to him for its superb sensitivity & draughtsmanship. It dates from c1500 & is part of an important collection of Old Master Italian drawings. Image

Thread: This drawing was inspired by my 4y old niece & her favourite Halloween costume. She’s a bit of a character & very direct. I was capturing a child’s love of the wonder of things & how they treat the exceptional with complete acceptance. It’s about the magic of life! Image

Thread: Taoiseach, Micheál Martin, has the best record of supporting Irish LGBTQI people, politically, this century. This is an important interview. Hopefully he will move on Trans health & outlaw hate speech/crime which are much needed. He stands up to TERFs. .@MichealMartinTD
Two years ago a British TERF (transphobic or ‘Gender Critter’) group tried to smear a LGBTQI charity. Taoiseach Martin made a very public display of support for the charity .@Belong_To & launched a fund-raising stamp for them.

Thread: Some of the most exotic & beautiful of Irish wild flowers are orchids. You can find them in ancient grasslands, bogs, woods & other semi-natural sites. Many are very rare. Here I’ve taken three examples & presented them in vibrant unique colours. Image

Thread: In 1893 a trial caught the imagination of the British & Irish people. It was about a two thousand year old hoard of gold found at Broighter, near Limavady in Ireland*. At stake was one of the most important treasures ever found in these islands! (Broighter boat) Image
A man was ploughing at Broighter & to his amazement dug up a stunning gold collar, a bowl, a necklace called a torc & other necklaces & items of gold. Back then only a handful of people would have been able to recognise what he had discovered. *present day N Ireland (hoard) Image
