1/ The Conservative media propaganda campaign against the government of 🇨🇦 intensifies as they try to make the white supremacist-led protests seem justified by throwing everything behind a manufactured fake scandal.

With CPC in freefall, who is pulling these strings? Cui bono?
2/ What has the current govt done that makes it so urgent to undermine it even when the Opposition is practically leaderless and fractured?

If I were a conspiracy theorist - and I don't think I am, but I am on the intuitive side - I would have three suspects.

#cdnpoli
3/ • First would be what people are referring to variably as the Dominionists or christofascists, whose influence has been part of the fracturing of Conservatism and has been bubbling under the surface for a century. Emboldened by their success in the USA, they could be making
4/ their play in Canada. Certainly that's the theory that fits the Klondike Papers scenario. But looking at how it worked in the US - installing a strongman/idiot and poisoning the wells via judicial appointments - that's more an explanation of what we are seeing within the
5/ federal and provincial Con parties. Flooding the leadership field with useful idiots to see which can get elected.

That strategy doesn't require this sudden push. There are enough Nouveau Social Credit US- backed Manning puppets active in CPC/UCP/PCPO to create Trump North,
6/ and destabilization when the federal CPC is such a mess doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Unless it's in reaction to proposed limits on disinformation that is pushing the timelone. Maybe.

What else is the 🇨🇦 govt doing that is creating this urgent need to attack and try to
7/ push a change of power?
• My second theory is Russia. The push comes as Canada increasingly emerges as a particular friend of Ukraine. With the 🇨🇦 govt pressing other countries to weaken Russian influence and the Russian economy, and Russia now blatantly targeting
8/ civilian targets, it's easy to extend what we already know of Russian internet disinformation activities to include targeting the leadership of the international resistance.

In that scenario, the current disarray of the CPC works in their favour. Which is why I would be
9/ tempted, IF I were a conspiracy theorist, to see Russia as the instigator behind the attacks - and the dim-witted toddler "conservative" pundits as their tools.

It's possible the Dominionists are their tools - as increasingly seems the case in the assault on US democracy.
10/ Certainly the timing fits, and the tinge of desperation to it. But...well, the part of me that is definitely NOT a conspiracy theorist says it would explain the social media attacks but I can't quite stretch far enough to see Joe Oliver as a tool of Russia. Mind you, we
11/ didn't initially think it of Trump either, so....

Cui bono. Cui bono...

Who else benefits? Who else is currently threatened by having a strong leadership in Ottawa and benefits from the clown show that is the CPC leadership race?

What are the other crucial issues that
12/ are on the Liberal govt table that threaten powerful international interests?

I see three others who could be argued by a conspiracy theorist to benefit: guns, oil and the non-Dominionist conservative IDU.

I rule out guns. Why? Canada is not gun averse. Canada has lots of
13/ guns. When you look at our size, we just aren't that big a market - even if the govt's move to restrict gun availability puts a dent in it. I don't see it as worth destabilization when the pro-gun party is weak.

The IDU would also not be a prime suspect unless the timing is
14/ to benefit their favorite puppet in the CPC leadership race and the timing is about THAT and only indirectly about anything Trudeau is doing. Hm. Possible.

So then there's oil.

Oil benefits from the war - in the short term. But only the short term, as the war has Europe
15/ fast-tracking plans to reduce their dependence. But what is facing the Trudeau govt that threatens O&G enough to try to get him out?

Is it the cost overruns threatening TMX? Seems unlikely - unless the international O&G interests don't want TMX completed. Seems a stretch.
16/ Although a conspiracy theorist might link the sudden flourishing of Alberta pro-O&G anti-environmentalist independence politicians to the push against a strong federalist party in Ottawa. But again, whike the CPC is in disarray? I don't see it as likely.

Cui bono. Cui...
17/ Who would benefit from the installation of the economic illiterates running amok in the CPC? Who is exploiting the racist anger in Canada? Who benefits?

Who is suspect #3? Who is threatened by actions of the Trudeau govt so much that they want it gone even if there's no-one
18/ waiting in the wings?

Not likely China - they already have 🇨🇦 sufficiently under control courtesy of Harper's FIPA legacy.

Not the international environmental movement (who would have every reason to try to remove governments around the world, but who seem unable to).
19/ •So my third most likely conspiracy theory is the technocracy fearful that the 🇨🇦 govt's flirtation with internet censorship will snowball internationally. Because of the theories, this is the one that benefits most without needing a strong alternative in an Opposition.
20/ It's also the one that gives the media their own motive, that is least likely to have the pundits realize they are being used. If 🇨🇦 - boring, stable, democratic 🇨🇦 - succeeds in restricting the disinformation power of the likes of Meta, manages to convince Canadians that
21/ the unprecedented power of these conglomerates cannot be completely unchecked - other reasonable countries might also seek to limit their power.

Now, because I am not a conspiracy theorist I don't assume evil intent behind the big picture of the technocracy - but I am also a
22/ realist who understands people will do immoral things in service of a goal they see as moral.

It would definitely benefit these interests to discredit this govt at this time, and the media would be the most likely tool.

But I am not a conspiracy theorist. This push - when
23/ 🇨🇦 is experiencing high employment, is being acknowledged for relatively effective covid response, is a champion for Ukraine, is a place of relative stability and prosperity - this coordinated push to remove the govt comes from somewhere.

I just want to know.

1/ This evening around 9:30 I was on the phone with a friend in Toronto. I was getting ready to go get a few groceries, and observing the rules: go to the bathroom before you get in the car.
I was interrupted in my task by an odd rustling sound from the

1/Today is a brilliant, sunny day in #yeg.

Summer.

Been a tough week in North America as millions woke up to the realization that corruption and misinformation are winning the battle for control over us.

Too many people didn't take it seriously enough early enough.

#abpoli
2/ Now the challenge is to stave off despair, to continue to find joy in our daily lives while we fight for a better world.

One where the word "freedom" isn't used to enslave people. Where death merchants can't buy from politicians the right to terrorize and kill women, children
3/ whether by violence or neglect, or by forced exposure to life-altering viruses.

Every day look for something good, something beautiful. Hold those things close and share them. Take strength from them.

Look at the people around you. Help the vulnerable in what ways you can.

1/ When I started HS, I was in awe of the lanky Tommy Tune-esque kid who was in the musicals. I think we only overlapped that one year.

He became famous, but not as a musical theatre star.

His name was Peter Evans and he was a hero. He caught HIV early and went public, his

He died.

The first of many in my expanding professional and personal circle.

So I marched, wrote letters, worked with groups to promote safe sex, fought against the bigots.
3/ There was a cost to this. I would hear rumours about me (undiagnosed celiac meant I was always really thin - some folks thought it meant I had HIV), would have my personal life dissected, would be a target for harassment.

I was not alone. There were many of us who understood

1/ Team O'Toole post-election says people didn't want this election, they don't like PMJT, don't agree with Liberal policies.

Plus we had the full force of the Postmedia misinformation machine working against the Liberals.

If all those things are true yet the Libs still saw
2/ an increase in seats while the Cons were static in seats and lost a fair chunk of popular vote in true-blue Alberta, imagine how massive O'Toole's team is saying the Lib support was BEFORE PMJT called the election. If this result is what Canada voted despite their anger at
3/ the timing, despite the policy areas where Libs have been slow or missing (some of them areas where the Con platform would be worse, like climate change), despite the scandals (some of them manufactured), O'Toole thinks pre-election support for the Liberals was massive. So

@CPC_HQ 1/ In Alberta, Conservatives don't believe in lifting everyone up. They reduced minimum wage for the young, increased tuition, are wanting rollbacks - retroactive - for HCW and PSE. They overpay their Con racist pals, increase corporate welfare and reduce accountability.
@CPC_HQ 2/ And @jkenney is your pal, and just like you. He made promises too. He broke them. He canceled contracts just because the previous govt made them - politicking, not governing. He gambled and list - billiins of $ and thousands of lives.

@CPC_HQ @jkenney 3/ Like you, he surrounded himself with incompetent ideologues. People who don't understand ethics and who break the law.

That's what we saw even before he was elected. Like you and your lawbreaking Willy Wonka meme, your defaming Senator, your racist MPs.

1/ Yesterday I tried on some clothes at Winners. The lighting in the fitting rooms was wonderfully unflattering. I looked old and fat.

It's a bit like a funhouse mirror, but more frightening.

I've shrunk an inch or so from my 30s. Now at 6'2"+ and 173 lbs, I'm not

2/ in the overweight ranges of the charts. I feel great.

So I did a quick set of measurements.

Chest is 40", waist 33", hips 39.5".

The clothing was my size and seemed to fit nicely. But there's no denying the light made my body look bulgy and saggy and grey.
3/ I don't usually look at mirrors at home - get out of the shower, which is in a room that has no mirror, run a comb through my hair, use the electric shaver on my face, and throw some clothes on.

But lately I have been going to the gym, so I see myself in mirrors more often.
