Excellent read. Thank you @Ty_Olsen
This data should have been provided all along by @CDCofBC to municipalities. Why was a FOI required? 1/4
Back in Dec.2020, mayors were saying "better city-level data would help municipalities better respond to the pandemic." Public Health refused based on false argument of "privacy."
saanichnews.com/news/more-city…
Local data matters. Covid risks differ locally.
"The cities & towns with highest death rates generally fit one (or more) of 3 categories:
1-smaller communities (like Oliver & Prince Rupert) with a care home that sustained a severe & deadly outbreak;" 2/4
2-regions wt high numbers of non-native English speakers (Burnaby/Abbotsford);
3- communities wt low vaccination rates (Fort St. James/Burns Lake)."
Different issues require different responses. Different community strengths & resources also mean different local solutions. 3/4
Must also learn from + outliers/ best performers. "In the Fraser Valley, Abbotsford, Agassiz, and Hope had the highest death rates. Mission and Langley had the lowest rates." Why the difference? What are Mission and Langley doing differently? 4/4

1/Excellent reporting by @TheTyee:
“Although many PH officials still dismiss COVID infections as inevitable & even beneficial, a growing body of science shows this fashionable dogma is dangerously wrongheaded, if not an outright form of malpractice.”

A🧵:
thetyee.ca/Analysis/2022/…
2/ “Reinfections, and 2022 is surely the year of reinfections, just increase the damage from COVID, which can be profound: immune dysregulation, blood clots, nerve cell death, inflammation, lung damage, kidney failure and brain damage.”

hopkinsmedicine.org/health/conditi…
3/ “New science shows that Omicron & its variants are getting better at evading immune defences induced by vaccines or by natural infection. BA5, for example, is more transmissible than any previous variant.”

Rapid Antigen Testing, what you need to know. Read here:

What is different with Omicron and Rapid Antigen Test?
Swab BOTH throat and nose as per this video.
Make sure not to drink for 30 minutes prior to swabbing. Nova Scotians were early adopter of Rapid Antigen Testing, here is what they say. globalnews.ca/video/8530698/…
Test to "play" with Omicron: no symptoms and want to make sure not to infect the vulnerable person you are visiting, test immediately prior to your visit. Remember no test is 100% sensitive, always consider adding other layers of protection. #N95 #COVIDisAirborne #CleanTheAir

This will be our live tweet thread 🧵of the provincial #bcpoli #COVID19 presser today, which we expect will include new information on rapid test distribution plans. Will they finally admit that COVID is airborne? Probably not, but we really hope they do! #FreetheRATs!
We begin with Dr. Henry reminding us that they removed some public health protections last week, just before at least 44 people died of COVID over the weekend. For her, this is "on track", "positive, encouraging trends". She looks forward to removing more protections ASAP.
Dr. Henry introduces Novavax, a new vaccine that uses a moth cell line & soap bark tree extract. This is different/more traditional than MRNA vaccines. Rather than emulating COVID proteins, it generates proteins from moth cells that stimulate antibody protection, w/ 90% efficacy.
