I'm excited to share that I've been extensively updating my OnePagerICU.com site to make it run smoother and add a bunch of highly requested features. For example:

1️⃣ Search 🔎
This should make it easier & much faster to find content! Less scrolling, more learning!
1/
2️⃣ References 📚
The site now includes links to all the references cited in each OnePager. In most cases I try to point out the seminal papers & their findings. Hopefully this makes it easier for learners to find the "key studies" on a topic!

(DM me ones I've missed! 🙏)
2/
3️⃣ Related OnePagers 🖇️
Thumbnails to related OnePagers - for example if you just learned about ECMO Fundamentals perhaps you'd like to see OnePagers about ECMO troubleshooting, LVADs, Balloon Pumps, etc?
Hopefully this makes it easier to find your next topic to learn about!
3/
4️⃣ Links to other sites 🔗
There's a ton of great #FOAMed out there; I've added links to some of my favs! (e.g. @emcrit @LITFLblog @derangedphys @PulmPEEPs etc)
(This is a work in progress; please DM me or @OnePagerICU if you have suggestions for links I should include! 🙏)
4/
5️⃣ Translations! 🌍
The beauty of #OpenSource is it makes it easy to collaborate/translate. Thanks to several amazing volunteers, we now have OnePagers translated into 7 languages! 🇫🇷🇩🇪🇪🇸🇵🇹🇧🇷 & more!

Check out the index to see translations by language onepagericu.com/index
5/
6️⃣ More OnePagers! 📟
There's some new content & I've got about a dozen #OnePagers in the works including some amazing collaborations. Stay tuned for a lot more *content* in the coming weeks! #FOAMed #FOAMcc

The vast majority (over 96%) of doctors are vaccinated and behind virtually every “anti-vax doc” is a cash only practice selling pseudoscience snake oil.

A🧵of particularly egregious examples.

1/
Dr Gold - a noted spreader of anti-vax conspiracies - reportedly made over $6.7m selling ivermectin & HCQ.

Dr Bowen is another awful purveyor of anti-vax & other misinformation.

She charges hundreds to thousands of dollars for ivermectin, hydroxychloroquine, IV vitamins, & visits to a salt cave.

She claims to have “treated” 4000+ people, so she’s probably made off with millions.

Apparently anti-vaxxers are against teaching CPR & having AEDs in schools?

Sudden cardiac death is tragically among the leading causes of death in young athletes.
CPR education & AEDs in schools are lifesaving interventions that have been around long before the pandemic.
1/ Image
As of 2020 (well before any COVID vaccines), 20 states *required* AEDs in schools & 36 *required* CPR training to graduate from high school.

In 2013, a survey of 2149 US high schools found that 87% had AEDs.

Not only were school CPR/AED programs quite common back in 2013, but their resuscitation outcomes were excellent:

There are ~350,000 sudden cardiac deaths (SCD) each year in the US (almost 1000 per day).

Most SCD occurs in older people with known coronary disease, but, sadly a minority of sudden deaths occur in the young.

Roughly 1500 people under 25 die of SCD each year in the US.

1/ ImageReference: https://resident...
Sadly, SCD is more common among young athletes, where it is the leading non-traumatic cause of death.

This is why CPR training in schools & having automated external defibrillators (AEDs) at sporting events is so important.

2/
Sudden deaths in young people are tragedies.

Its infuriating to see anti-vaxxers weaponizing these tragedies as being somehow vaccine related.

Acting like SCD didn’t exist before the pandemic either means this person is a terrible physician, a terrible person, or both.

Yet another large trial of ivermectin is now complete & the results are negative.

ACTIV-6 found no difference in mortality or hospitalization when people with COVID were randomized to ivermectin.

Yet another nail in the ivermectin ⚰️

Preprint medrxiv.org/content/10.110…

1/
ACTIV6 is a large placebo controlled RCT performed at 93 sites in the 🇺🇸 by @DCRINews

It enrolled adults >30yo w symptomatic COVID. They were randomized to either ivermectin or placebo.

The primary endpoints were death, Hospitalization, & symptoms
clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT04…
2/
It was a “fully decentralized study”, meaning patients could be enrolled remotely & medication shipped to their home (via next day mail). Follow up was either remote or in person.

Theoretically this is a great pragmatic way to enroll a large number of people in a trial.

Once again there is a wave of #misinformation about #ExcessMortality & #vaccines in the US.

A mysterious insurance report says “excess mortality is rising” could it be the vaccines?
No. Virtually all the excess mortality is associated with COVID infections!

A debunking 🧵.
1/ ImageImageImageImage
Every few months, a myth of “unexplained deaths not from COVID” resurfaces.
Last time they claimed “young people” were inexplicably dying. Looking at the actual data it was pretty clear that virtually all the excess deaths under 45 were due to COVID.

2/
In a later incarnation, this conspiracy theory revolved around a mysterious (and nameless) "insurance industry expert” & "former Wall Street analyst” who did his own analysis and “found an 84% increase in excess mortality."

This too has been debunked.

Once again EFD is fear-mongering without actually reading the paper.

In this study they placed anesthetized macaques in a plexiglass box & continuously inhale virus that was aerosolized by nebulizer.

This does not mean that #monkeypox is transmitted by aerosol!
1/ ImageImage
There is a huge difference between showing that a virus *CAN* be aerosolized in a controlled laboratory setting and saying it actually *DOES* spread as an aerosol.

There is no evidence that airborne transmission actually occurred in this (or any prior) monkeypox outbreak.
2/ ImageImage
Key points:
- read the whole paper including the methods
- try not to fall asleep with your head in a plexiglass box filled with nebulized monkeypox
- get medical advice about Monkeypox from actual experts in infectious disease (see my list below)
