Getting ready for #APA next month? The convention is in #Minneapolis, the homelands of the Dakota people — where thousands of Indigenous peoples still live & thrive
Doing a land acknowledgement? Cool. What's even cooler is supporting local #Indigenous communities. Here's how🧵
Put actions where your land acknowledgement is this @APAconvention by providing tangible support to the Native American & Indigenous peoples of Minneapolis & greater Minnesota. I'll keep adding to this, but here's a few ideas to get you started:
Donate & spend your money at one of the many Indigenous organizations & businesses along Franklin Ave. It's where the American Indian Movement (AIM) began & is now known as the American Indian Cultural Corridor nacdi.org/cultural-corri…
Along Franklin Ave, you'll see the Native American Community Clinic (@NACC_Healthcare), which helps Native American families access equitable healthcare. Just $50 covers the cost of 10 flu tests for patients without insurance! nacc-healthcare.org
Although the Minneapolis American Indian Center is closed for renovations, you can still provide donations to the center as one of the first & oldest in the country. maicnet.org/donate/
Get some coffee & snacks at Pow Wow Grounds! I've been going there for coffee since I moved here. powwowgrounds.com
While you're at Pow Wow Grounds, you can also stop in All My Relations Arts. It's a gallery connected to the coffee shop. If you can't make it in, you can donate directly. allmyrelationsarts.com
You can also donate to the Native American Community Development Institute (@nacdimn), which supports Native peoples' visions for a vibrant future. givemn.org/donate/Native-…
Wanna bring some books or art home? Stop into Birchbark Books (@birchbarkbooks), an independent bookstore owned by Ojibwe author & Pulitzer Prize winner Louise Erdrich in Southwest Minneapolis. birchbarkbooks.com
Wanna do some more shopping? Visit Northland Visions in Northeast Minneapolis, an Ojibwe owned retail store. northlandvisions.com
Eat at Sean Sherman (@the_sioux_chef) & Dana Thompson's James Beard Award winning full service Indigenous restaurant Owamni (@owamni). They're usually booked in advance, but have same day reservations if you call when they open. owamni.com
