🆕 report describes all vaccines currently in development for priority bacterial pathogens ⬇️
#AntimicrobialResistance (AMR) occurs when:
🔸 bacteria
🔸 viruses
🔸 fungi
🔸 parasites
no longer respond to medicines, ↗️ the risk of disease spread, severe illness & death.
🆕 vaccines in development have the potential to impact AMR & save lives:

Vaccines are highly effective tools in combating #AntimicrobialResistance by:
🎯 directly targeting resistant bacteria
🩹 reducing the incidence of both resistant & susceptible infections, thereby ⬇️ #antibiotic consumption, which is a 🔑 driver of AMR
The analysis identifies 6⃣1⃣ vaccine candidates in various stages of clinical development, incl. several vaccine candidates against priority pathogens that are in late stages of development. Most of these vaccines will not be available anytime soon
The 🆕 report stresses that access to these vaccines should be increased globally, especially among populations that need them most in limited resource settings.
The first WHO analysis providing data for the 🌐 R&D community to guide investments & research into feasible vaccines to mitigate #AntimicrobialResistance highlights that for the most critical gram-negative bacteria, the vaccine pipeline is weak.
Vaccination is 🔑 to achieve universal health coverage & #HealthForAll, & 1 of the 🌐’s most cost-effective public health interventions. Yet, under immunization is still common among refugees & migrants.
🆕 Global Evidence Review on Health & Migration:

For refugees & migrants, access to vaccination varies greatly across countries, based on their:
🔸 migratory status
🔸 age
🔸 context in which these populations live

Refugees & migrants may face barriers 🚧 in accessing vaccines incl.:

🔸individual-level 🚧 like trust, cultural, religious, social norms & beliefs

"I am concerned that cases of #COVID19 continue to rise - putting further pressure on stretched health systems and health workers - and deaths are unacceptably high"-@DrTedros
@DrTedros "The Emergency Committee on #COVID19 met on Friday last week and concluded that the virus remains a Public Health emergency of International Concern"-@DrTedros
The world is moving backwards in efforts to eliminate hunger & malnutrition with 828 million people affected by hunger globally in 2021: UN State of Food Security and Nutrition report bit.ly/3IhHXjw
An estimated 45 million children under five years old were suffering from wasting*, the deadliest form of malnutrition, which increases children’s risk of death by up to 12 times bit.ly/3IhHXjw
*wasting: when children are too thin for their height
149 million children under five years old had stunted* growth & development due to a chronic lack of nutritious food in their diets, while 39 million were overweight.
*stunting: when a child is too short for their age, due to a failure to grow both physically & cognitively
@DrTedros "Globally reported #COVID19 cases have increased nearly 30% over the past two weeks. 4 out of 6 of the WHO sub-regions saw cases increase in the last week"-@DrTedros
@DrTedros "In Europe and America, BA.4 and BA.5 are driving waves. In countries like India a new sub lineage of BA.2.75 has also been detected which we’re following"-@DrTedros#COVID19
1 year ago, as the 🌐’s richest countries rolled out #COVID19 vaccines while the poorest countries watched on, WHO set an ambitious but attainable 🎯 to vaccinate 7⃣0⃣% of the population of every country by the mid-2022.
The deadline is upon us, have we achieved #VaccinEquity?
#COVID19 vaccination has saved almost 2⃣0⃣ million
lives in 2021 alone, according to a new study in @TheLancetInfDis
Hundreds of thousands of deaths could have been averted if the 🌎🌍🌏 had reached WHO's target to vaccinate 40% of the population of every country against #COVID19 by the end of 2021. Most of these lives could have been saved in low income countries:
