#SpeciallyAbledChild#Mentalhealth Writing this thread against the backdrop of a very tragic event where a dentist mom threw her specially abled child from the 4th floor and the child died. My sympathies to the entire family. We don't know what made her take that extreme step.
Let me share a life experience from the other end of the spectrum and it's a tribute to them. My father-in-law's cousin gave birth to a daughter, who on account of various reasons, was born where she needed help with her daily activities. She can't stand and her hands are bent.
Both the parents, especially the mother, took it as a challenge and treated the daughter as a normal one. From a small age, this girl could move only in a wheelchair. This girl also took on the challenge gamely. #optimism#positivity#Grateful
She studied in a proper school, learnt art and craft (she used to do the artwork for sofa covers and many other items). She learnt singing and used to be a regular in the Garba festivals where she was asked to sing - the Kathiawadi Garba songs.
She was very good in singing and has sung god knows how many songs.
She got a job in a good public sector company - on merit - and is in a senior position today - due to the dint of hard work. And yes,s he continues to sing even today.
And well, she got married!! Her parents think very highly about their son-in-law who knew what he was getting into. The marriage is thriving, and they were blessed with a child, who now is in the 10th grade.
If this is not resilience, what else what would be? The parents, never ever gave up on their daughter, supported her and are still supporting her. They took the daughter as a blessing from the almighty. I have never seen them look pensive even for one day.
Always bubbling with energy, optimism, this couple is one couple I regard very highly and are lesson to anyone who thinks that life has given them the wrong turn of dice. There are many things in life that we don't have control on - but how we respond is the key.
Recently, I spoke to the mother that turned out to be a long one. In a nutshell, I told her that her life experience is one of the most positive things that one can look upto, how to conquer obtacles.
She told me that because she was very positive and optimistic, she never felt dejected or upset or anything negative. In fact, whenever we used to go to her house, she will get excited and cook so many offerings at the drop of a hat!! It was unbelievable.
Stories of real-life events like these can make an enormous difference to those who think that life is bleak and nothing can be done about it. So my take: don't give up.
And yes, there is much more to life than just politics. Look beyond politics - there is a very rich world out there. Don't allow clods to take your attention away from other offerings.
On the auspicious occasion of #VaralakshmiVratham#VaralakshmiNonmbu, a shoutout for some Ladies of Twitter whom I regard very highly for various reasons. It has been a privilege to interact with them, which we do on a fairly regular basis.
Being 3 to 6 Kg overweight could protect people from ailments ranging from Tuberculosis to Alzheimer's disease, research indicates.
Those carrying 7 to 12 Kg extra are better able to recover from adverse conditions such as emphysema, pneumonia, and various injuries and infections, states the report.
Life can be a series of hyperlinks for ordinary folks like me and we end up at a different point than what we intended!!!
One fine day, it all started with my best half wanting to do some Yoga. That led her going for the mat.
When she took out the mat, she discovered that the cover of the container, which housed the mat, is broken.
"Aji Sunte ho (she did not exactly call that but what the heck !!), should I throw out the cover?" came the question disturbing my somnambulist feelings.
"Yes dear", I responded, not wanting to show that I did not make head or tail of what she wanted.
"Come over here". And I obeyed her command and went to the room where she was.
"See, this cover is broken. Should I throw it?
Sharing a note of Rajeswari Ranganthan from FB. #Women
Women, Deepam and Agni.
Around 3-4 years ago, when I began guiding the young adults, elderly women to set up nitya puja, japa etc, i categorically mentioned women should light the Deepam.
Some people who barely had any idea about tradition used to ask me Why is it a women's job to light Agni and why not a man?
I (the author Rajeswari that is) had encountered similar questions even much before that
The reason is Women holds the Agni. It is their Adhikara. They alone have the right and hence it is their duty and responsibility to ensure Deepam is done at home.
We've all heard about people having Guts or Balls. But do you really know the difference between them? In an effort to keep you informed, here are the definitions:
GUTS - Is arriving home late after a night out with the guys, being met by your wife with a broom, and having the Guts to ask: 'Are you still cleaning, or are you flying somewhere?'
BALLS - Is coming home late after a night out with the guys, smelling of perfume and beer, lipstick on your collar, slapping your wife on the butt and having the Balls to say: 'You're next, Chubby.'
I hope this clears up any confusion on the definitions and differences. But....
It is so much of fun reading the old articles written for Maggi 2 Minute experts who can then publish it in smelly 💩💩💩various publications of "repute". A rewind of one such person's "articles"
