Today is International #YouthDay

Healthy behaviours that start in adolescence make healthy adults:
-Healthy diet
-#NoTobacco nor alcohol use Image
Unintentional injuries are the leading cause of death & disability among adolescents (10-19 years)

In 2019, nearly 100,000 adolescents died because of road traffic accidents.

Half of all #MentalHealth disorders in adulthood start by age 14, but most cases are undetected & untreated

Depression is one of the leading causes of illness and disability among adolescents (10-19 years); and suicide is the second leading cause of death in people aged 15–19 years

🍻 Drinking alcohol among adolescents is a major concern in many countries.
It can reduce self-control and increase risky behaviours like unsafe sex or reckless driving

Most people using tobacco today began doing so when they were adolescents
🚭 Prohibit the sale of tobacco products to minors (under 18)
🚭 Increase the price of tobacco products through higher taxes
🚭 Ban tobacco advertising
🚭 Ensure smoke-free environments

While there has been a sharp decline in new #HIV infections among adolescents (10-24 years) since its peak in 1994, even today adolescents account for about 10% of new adult infections.
Three-quarters are among adolescent girls.

🔵Ageism is insidious.

🔵It is seldom addressed in health, human rights, and development.

🔵It has bearings on both older and younger populations around the world.

🤰🏻 Nearly 12 million girls aged 15–19 give birth each year in developing regions.
Complications from pregnancy & childbirth are among the leading causes of death for girls aged 15-19 years, globally

WHO recommends that adolescents get at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous intensity physical activity on average per day across the week.
This might incl. walking, cycling, physical education, sports, games and other types of activities

Have you ever:
👎 Been considered 'too young' for a job or promotion
👎 Been treated unfairly because of age-related bias
👎 Been 'too young' to be listened to

That's ageism.

Stand up against ageism for #AWorld4AllAges
