Good morning from the Chao Phraya River in #Bangkok. This is a live THREAD of my day-trip by boat to Koh Kret in Nonthaburi. This is a special tour that is organized by the Chao Phraya Express. Cost is only 150 Baht. The next one is on 28 August 2022. #Thailand#BKKdaytrip
[2] I love doing these boats trips on the Chao Phraya. Every now and then they do different kinds of trips. The other day was a three temple boat tour. A couple of weeks ago I joined them for the boat tour to Ayutthaya.
Follow me on Twitter for news about their next trips.
[3] This is the famous ‘Leaning Pagoda’ on Koh Kret. This is an island on the Chao Phraya River created when they dug a shortcut canal to make the journey to Ayutthaya quicker. This was back in the days when Ayutthaya was the capital. It took us about one hour and 15 minutes.
[4] I had a really good time exploring Koh Kret this afternoon. The boat dropped us off at around 11:20am and then we had just over three hours to explore the island which was enough time. I first walked through the market and took a look at a few of the Mon style temples.
[5] There was certainly a lot of delicious food on offer on Koh Kret and so make sure you go there hungry. I came across this guy that was selling something that I hadn’t seen before. It would be nice to find a homestay and spend a few days here so I can eat all that is on offer.
[6] Koh Kret is also famous for pottery so make sure you visit one of these potteries. You can even have a go yourself. One other activity you can do is hire a bicycle for around 40-50 Baht for the day. #Thailand
[7] After walking around for a while, I ended up at Chitbeer for lunch. They don’t actually sell food as their speciality is craft beer. But you can buy elsewhere and eat here. In the end I spent about an hour or so here as it’s a nice location by the river.
[8] Today I was on a special boat trip to Koh Kret organized by the Chao Phraya Express boat company. The boat left Sathorn Pier at 10:00am and we returned just before 4:00pm. Cost was only 150 Baht. The next trip is advertised for 28 August.
[9] For those people asking, here’s the advertisement for the special boat trip to Koh Kret. The next one is on 28 August. You can take the green flag commuter boats during the week but there’s not much open on Koh Kret. The best time to visit is at the weekends.

Good morning from the Chao Phraya River. Today I’m on a boat trip from Bangkok to Ayutthaya which will take about 3 hours. The boat has air-con downstairs but I’m on the upper deck as there are better views.
[2] This is the new parliament building on the banks of the Chao Phraya River. #Thailand
[3] This is the old city hall in Nonthaburi. Regular boat services from Bangkok only go as far as here, though you can rent a boat to take you to Koh Kret. Today I’m on a special boat trip that will go all the way to Ayutthaya. #Thailand
This is the Paknam Observation Tower. The outside has been completed for several years now. But we are still waiting for them to finish the inside. However I heard that it is nearing completion and it should be opened to the public this year. THREAD.
These are some photos of the Paknam Observation Tower taken over the years. The foundation stone ceremony was in 2012. The first photo was taken in 2013. The last in 2016. It was scheduled to open in 2017. Note the Skytrain with no rails.
Tickets for the day excursion to the beach cost only 120 Baht in 3rd Class fan or double if you want air-con in 2nd Class. I prefer with open windows as easier to take photos. However, this time I’ve booked an inward facing seat as it gives more leg room for this 5 hour journey.
Breakfast on the train today is my usual. Stir-fried basil with minced pork. The cost with a fried egg was 30 Baht. Not the most generous of portions but good value for the price. Anyway, there will be more food opportunities later.
Good morning from Wongwian Yai Station in #Bangkok. Today I’m on a #BKKdaytrip to Samut Songkhram by train. This is a live THREAD 🧵 of the trip. Also follow @ThaiTrainGuide for more photos and information.
[3] Tickets for the one hour train trip to Mahachai (Samut Sakhon) are only 10 Baht in 2nd Class with fan. The seats are hard but it doesn’t really matter as the journey is short.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) has just issued a pilot notice (NOTAM) informing airlines around the world of the latest measures for air travel to #Thailand. This will be effective from 1st May 2022 onwards: caat.or.th/th/archives/64…

2. Passengers who have not been vaccinated or not fully vaccinated can do a RT-PCR test 72 hours before departure and will be able to enter the country without any additional COVID-19 testing. Otherwise they will be quarantined as ordered by quarantine officials for five days.
This morning, I took a boat trip from my resort on Koh Phi Phi Don to Maya Bay. Koh Phi Phi Lay has only recently reopened to tourists after been closed for just over three years. This is a short THREAD of that experience.
[2] Boats are no longer allowed to enter Maya Bay and moor on the beach. They can go to the entrance to the bay for taking pictures. Boats have to then go around to the back where there is a jetty. We were there at 9:30am and I counted 40 boats. Mainly long-tailed boats.
[3] As Koh Phi Phi Ley is part of the national park, you have to pay an entrance fee. 400 Baht for foreigners and 40 Baht for Thais. When you arrive at Maya Bay on the other side, there is a viewing platform to look down on the beach and a snack shop. #Thailand
