"Ask them where have they been for the past three months, when are they going to show up and deliver and live up to their word?"

While council approved the Chinatown money, Mayor Sohi and others asked why the province hasn't stepped up to help with more funding/resources?

Worth noting there is a *lot* of nuance regarding this motion and vote that I can't sum up in a tweet, but here's how the vote went down. #yeG #Yegcc
Council did unanimously support call for a report to look deeper into the issue.

Justice Minister Tyler Shandro pitching a blueprint for the Alberta Police Service.

Says each rural detachment would have guaranteed minimum of 10 officers, along with civilian mental health and addictions specialist to support front line support.
Shandro says this would add 275 officers to the 42 smallest communities in Alberta.

There would be 20-30 larger service hubs to help larger communities with each having 48-192 officers.
Shandro says tactical teams and investigative units would be spread across the province to cut down on wait times (compared to keeping them in major hubs)

Q!

Why take away city powers over health bylaws?

Kenney says public health is a provincial responsibly.

Adds they've shown flexibility during pandemic for munis- but worried about patchwork policy creating division and confusion.
Kenney adds that there is no compelling public rationale for ongoing bylaw.

Adds that if cities have the power to implement their own health measures, it could become a political issue.
Why get rid of masking mandate?

Kenney says best solution remains vaccines - worried about being below average for booster shots nationally.

Adds masks make many people uncomfortable and that Omicron is so transmissible and we have to be realistic.
