20 dead simple leadership thoughts learnt through my mistakes to help you think about how you lead (that you didn’t know you needed):
🧵
#leadership #team #future #growthmindset #ship30for30
1. Dare to suck
2. Trust but verify
3. Simplicity is power
4. Work hard, rest harder
5. Be flawless at the basics
6. Under-react to everything
7. Mission first; people always
8. Constantly explore the future
9. Time is never wasted in rehearsal
10. The plan is nothing; planning is everything
11. Be a better person than you were yesterday
12. Asking for help is a strength, not a weakness
13. Rank doesn’t have a monopoly on good ideas
14. Train for the known, educate for the unknown
15. Keep some fuel in the tank for the unexpected
16. Leadership is 90% people skills and 20% motivation
17. Give yourself space to grieve when a catastrophe happens
18. The plan changes as soon as you are wheels-up on the mission
19. Be clear on the purpose and mission outcomes; your team can connect the dots
20. Don’t stress about the things you can’t control; relentlessly attack the things you can
That's a wrap!

Science is characterised by:

• Creating hypotheses
• Experimenting to validate

I hadn’t been exposed to a crash before.

At 1021am on 12 Feb 2004, a beacon blared in my headset.

The experience taught me three valuable lessons for operating in crisis.

It changed the way I approached leadership.

Our aircraft was hovering on the side of a hill.

“All aircraft on the net; check your crash beacon for accidental activation.”

It was easy to bump the manual switch at times.
Each aircraft checked in.
