Mitch Lowe, one of the founders of Netflix, is the keynote speaker today @PulseCon_ . Speaking now.#pulsecon2022
“You may start out in one direction (mail order DVDs) and then need to pivot and change direction (streaming). The best employees are the ones who are comfortable with that ambiguity.” - Mitch Lowe
The arrogance of leadership and not to be open to innovation is devastating. Blockbuster had the chance to acquire Netflix and told them “why would we ever do that - we know more than you ever will about this business”. They no longer exist. #MitchLowe #Netflix #pulsecon2022
Keep your eyes open to change. Sometimes these things take time. And it’s hard to give ideas enough time to develop esp when you’re funding it. (When Netflix first offered streaming there were no Smart TVs.) Many of the innovations we use today are < 20 yrs old #pulsecon2022
The innovative post play feature of adding “Next Episode” button, a seemingly small idea that came from the team working on it, was probably THE biggest driver in loyalty to Netflix.
The early klunky looking #metaverse iterations, implemented with big goggles are evolving - Apple has a product that looks like Ray Bans and uses voice commands. That is one box that is going to be checked. Of course there are others …
Netflix is still the #1 streamer but people are spending more time on TikTok and YouTube. These short form content platforms are growing dramatically. How will Netflix evolve? How will TikTok evolve?
There is so much content being created. How can we find what we want? #pulsecon
We are awash in data. The key is sifting through it to find the data that is important and actionable for your business.
We are now at same point with #metaverse as Netflix was at when it entered streaming. There were many unknowns and the tools to do what we wanted to do don’t yet exist. But the opportunity is massive.
We are now at the sickening part of the DeShaun Watson story where the serial sexual abuser gets a woefully short suspension, after signing a contract that makes him the highest paid QB in NFL history. And he is supported by his team and their fans.
A thread. /1
Here are 10 Tweets on this mess. Because it says a lot about our culture and society, none of it good.
I wrote about the history of this up through the point that Watson was traded to the Browns and signed his monster contract here for @GoodMenProject:
1. The three main characters were each wonderful. Michelle Yeo (Crazy Rich Asians, Crouching Tiger) was pitch perfect in every universe she occupied. Stephanie Hsu (Marvelous Miss Maisel) was cool as hell. And Ke Huy Quan (Indiana Jones, Goonies) was sweet and lovable.
I like Farhad Manjoo; he's a thoughtful guy. And no doubt, we are in a period of great risk (and potentially great innovation and promise) for the nascent NFT space.
As someone who began as a skeptic but who is now fascinated with the potential, I'll just share a few thoughts:
1. Although NFTs and Crypto are based on the same underlying decentralized ledger technology (blockchain) and are linked in that Crypto can be and in many instances is used to buy NFTs, they are very different, IMO.
A fee completely unsolicited Sunday Evening thoughts on #NFTs:
NFTs encompass a ridiculously broad and varied range of “digital stuff”
This ranges from art and collectibles to in video game assets to mechanisms of tracking title and ownership of real world assets.

Art/collectibles are a large asset class & high profile (crazy high valuation) sales of art like Beeple’s & cultural/historical markers like Jack Dorsey’s first Tweet got attention. But the value of art in all forms is … hard to comprehend.
To me, the biggest reason that folks are excited about NFTs is because they provide a viable mechanism to monetize digital assets (which have always been very hard to monetize) AND there is A LOT of digital stuff out there and it’s only growing by the day.
