Most of us in the West recognise the criminal insanity of Putin's war against Ukraine & the lies he uses to justify it, but we shouldn't think ourselves immune to the same kind of madness, because we are not.
The Wests failure to instigate a #SustainabilityRevolution, the existential need for which has been apparent to many of us since the early 1970s, is also criminally insane. Only, we don't have a single Putin figure to blame. The blame is more collective, but focused on academia.
Why academia?
Because we look to academics as authorities in their supposed areas of expertise.
We expect social scientists to be authorities on understanding society, the state, & civilisation, but in truth they are as ignorant as medieval astronomers were of the heavens.
It's no good attacking academics for their ignorance, any more than it was medieval academics, as Galileo discovered to his cost.
They must be persuaded as politely as possible to recognise their ignorance, so that they can correct it.

In order to achieve genuine unity in securing our survival & well-being on this, our finite, vulnerable & overpopulated planet, #SpaceshipEarth, we must first recognise & understand our enslavement to #BigBro & #TheMatrix of state & capital.
To miscegenate all humanity, starting with Britain & the West?
What is DIVERSITY, other than Orwellian newspeak for #RacialMixing? Thereby going to the opposite extremes of Nazi ideology of racial purity & supremacy, notwithstanding that the Nazi conflated race & ethnicity.
Afua's father, if I'm correctly informed, was an Ashkenazi, i.e. White, Jew, who, according to criminally insane Nazi ideology, was a different race from their imaginary Germanic master race, who married an African, Afua's mother. Afua is thus of mixed Afro-European race.
I welcome Eric's attempt to understand American society, although I can't really relate to it. It's no good leaving it to social scientists, who haven't a clue, despite it being their supposed area of academic expertise.
I too have put a lot of effort into trying to understand my own & closely related societies like America, i.e. the West, which are the only ones I know anything about.
My most important insight is that the academics we look to as authorities on understanding society don't.
That may seem trivial, but it's not, because we look to academics as authorities in their particular areas of supposed expertise, & for good reason.
We look to astronomers to explain the heavens to us, which they can now do extremely well.
@AuronMacintyre@vdare We need to recognise the #NationState for what it is, i.e. has become: an Orwellian construct of lies & deceit, a mercenary #PatronState deceitfully posing as a nation, in order to legitimise itself, its ruling elites & the immense power they wield & abuse.
You would think that social science academics would be intensely interested in understanding why ALL the greatest civilisations ultimately committed suicide, since this must surely have profound implications for our own, the greatest of all civilisations - but no.
They are not interested, which is interesting in itself, since most of them have young children or grandchildren, who are going to be profoundly inconvenienced by our civilisation's fall, which there can be no doubt it is on course to do.
London's mayor & the deluded, eminent British journalist, #OrwellPrize winner & militant #AntiRacist, #DavidAaronovitch are both committed to the #GreatReplacement of Native Britons with migrants & asylum seekers of colour, of which there is an endless supply.
That #SadiqKhan wants the #GreatReplacement to proceed as quickly as possible, I can understand, but that @DAaronovitch - himself a Native Briton - should want this too is puzzling, until you realise that he is driven by an ideology, just as his communist parents were.
What is this ideology?
It is a misconceived, #NeverAgain, response of the evils of Nazism, which goes to oppose & equally insane extremes. It goes under the name(s) of post-racial multiculturalism, DIVERSITY, Inclusion & AntiRacism, & the purpose it serves is this:
