1. We desperately need to keep the #HouseBlueIn22! If the GOP takes control you’ll have racist, anti-science lunatics like MTG, Matt Gaetz & Lauren Boebert in charge. DON'T LET THAT HAPPEN.
3. It's vitally important to ADD to our Senate majority! We need a few more Dem Senators willing to reform (or eliminate) the filibuster to prevent a handful of wayward members from blocking the Democratic agenda. Here's 26 races. #SenateBlueIn22
4. While control of the federal government is vital, we've also learned how much power GOVERNORS have when it comes to protecting reproductive rights and so much more.
5. Secretary of State has always been an important job, but the GOP's attempts to overturn the 2020 election and *especially* their aggressive moves to nullify U.S. democracy add a new urgency to making sure it's #SOSBlueIn22. Here's 18 races to donate to: secure.actblue.com/donate/sosblue…
6. Besides helping save democracy, now that the SCOTUS has struck down Roe vs. Wade, state AGs across the country will play a critical role in the fate of women to control their own bodies.
12. NEW HAMPSHIRE: Another state where the GOP holds the majority in both chambers but Dems have a shot at at least one of them.
NH was tough to put together due to their unusual legislative districts, but here's 33 races which should be competitive: secure.actblue.com/donate/nhbluei…
13. MINNESOTA has a split-control legislature: The GOP controls the state Senate while DFL controls the state House. Either one could flip this fall.
OK, that's 189 legislative candidates, nearly all of whom are running in districts rated within 10 pts. That's 370 races total so far.
Next up are states where Democrats *currently* have control of both chambers but one or both are at risk of being lost to Republican control.
14. Dems currently hold a trifecta in COLORADO, but the legislature is potentially at risk. Help make sure we keep #COBlueIn22 by donating to up to 23 swing district candidates today: secure.actblue.com/donate/coblue22
15. The MAINE House & Senate are under Dem control but both majorities are shaky. Thanks to Maine's public campaign finance laws, only 7 swing district candidates require outside funding, but they could use that help to keep #MEBlueIn22: secure.actblue.com/donate/meblue22
16. NEVADA currently has Democratic majorities in both the state House & Senate, but both are in danger of being lost.
17. Again, NEW MEXICO has a Democratic trifecta but we need to make sure it stays that way! Help keep #NMBlueIn22 by donating to these 14 races today: secure.actblue.com/donate/nmblue22
18. OREGON: Democrats currently control both chambers of the state legislature, but can't take either one for granted! Donate to these 10 swing district candidates to make sure we keep #ORBlueIn22 today! secure.actblue.com/donate/orblue22
19. WASHINGTON STATE: Democrats hold a trifecta in the Evergreen State, but we have to help keep it that way! Donate to these 14 swing district state legislative candidates today to keep #WABlueIn22: secure.actblue.com/donate/wablue22
20. ALASKA has kind of a unique situation: *On paper*, Democrats need to flip seats to control the state legislature...but they also often form a coalition with a few non-Dems as well. Help them make gains by donating to these 12 races today: #AKBlueIn22secure.actblue.com/donate/akblue22
OK, we're up to 459 races total (181 federal/statewide + 278 state legislative).
Now we're into states where Republicans have solid control of both the state House & Senate. Dems are very unlikely to actually *flip* chambers *but* can help prevent or break GOP supermajorities.
21. ALABAMA: Dems have no chance of flipping control, but can at least lay the groundwork for future gains. 8 swing districts, of which 6 have Dems with ActBlue accounts running: secure.actblue.com/donate/albluei…
22. ARKANSAS: Dems have no chance of flipping control, but can at least lay the groundwork for future gains. 11 swing districts, of which 9 have Dems with ActBlue accounts running: secure.actblue.com/donate/arbluei…
23. FLORIDA: Dems have little chance of flipping control, but can prevent a GOP supermajority and lay the groundwork for future gains. 42 swing districts, of which 29 have Dems with ActBlue accounts running: secure.actblue.com/donate/flblue22
24. GEORGIA: Dems have little chance of flipping control, but can prevent a GOP supermajority and lay the groundwork for future gains. 18 swing districts, of which 15 have Dems with ActBlue accounts running: secure.actblue.com/donate/gablue22
25. IDAHO: Dems have no chance of flipping control, but can at least lay the groundwork for future gains. 12 swing districts, of which 7 have Dems with ActBlue accounts running: secure.actblue.com/donate/idblue2…
26. INDIANA: Dems have no chance of flipping control, but can at least lay the groundwork for future gains. 16 swing districts, of which 13 have Dems with ActBlue accounts running: secure.actblue.com/donate/inblue22
27. IOWA: Dems have little chance of flipping control, but can prevent a GOP supermajority & lay the groundwork for future gains. 43 swing districts, of which 35 have Dems w/ActBlue accounts running, plus 2 special cases: secure.actblue.com/donate/iablue22
28. KANSAS: Democrats have little chance of flipping control, but can at least break the GOP supermajority and lay the groundwork for future gains. 32 swing districts, of which 20 have Dems w/ActBlue accounts running, plus 1 special case: secure.actblue.com/donate/ksblue22
29. KENTUCKY: Democrats have no chance of flipping control, but can at least lay the groundwork for future gains. 11 swing districts, of which 7 have Dems w/ActBlue accounts running, plus 1 special case: secure.actblue.com/donate/kybluei…
30. MISSOURI: Democrats have no chance of flipping control, but can at least break the GOP supermajority & lay the groundwork for future gains.
31. MONTANA: Democrats have no chance of flipping control, but they can at least prevent a GOP supermajority & lay the groundwork for future gains.
SPECIAL CASE: Due to a lack of good data, I picked 30 districts semi-randomly; competitiveness unknown. secure.actblue.com/donate/mtblue22
32. NEBRASKA: Technically NE's single-chamber legislature is nonpartisan, but in practice the GOP has a supermajority. Dems aren't likely to flip control but could break that supermajority.
42. WISCONSIN is a swing state, but it's horribly gerrymandered to the point that Dems are very unlikely to flip control of either chamber. However, they can prevent a GOP supermajority!
43. WYOMING: Dems have no chance of flipping control, but can at least hold the line for future gains.
6 swing seats, of which just 3 have Dems w/ActBlue accounts running. I threw in the House, Gov & School Superintendent candidate for the heck of it. secure.actblue.com/donate/wybluei…
For over a year, I posted *weekly* updates to my now-famous (infamous?) red/blue scatter-plot graph. I switched to monthly updates earlier this year, and my last update was back in July. 2/
The September update will be my final one, for four reasons:
1. I've more than made my point: There's very little to add to the discussion of the insane partisanship of COVID-19 vaccination rates; it's been proven 8 ways from Sunday and discussed ad nauseum.
Just had an amusing conversation with a very confused treasurer for an Alaska state House candidate who couldn't figure out why their candidate received donations of $1.79, $1.79 and $3.58 from people living in California, Washington and Connecticut. secure.actblue.com/donate/akblue22
I think candidates for local races (state House, County Commissioner, etc) set up ActBlue accounts for their campaign websites without understanding that ActBlue allows ANY U.S. citizen living ANYWHERE to donate to them...or to create a slate page including their campaign.
There's a few exceptions--recently I discovered that Illinois passed a law just this year which prohibits out-of-state donations to state judicial candidates. As a result I had to remove 2 Illinois state supreme court candidates from this page: secure.actblue.com/donate/statesu…
See that "Moms for Liberty" shirt? Yeah, those are the Christofascists who've been screaming at school board meetings w/hateful bullshit about masks, vaccines, transgender kids & CRT.
Find out who they're supporting & vote accordingly.
To clarify: "Parental Rights" as used by "Moms for Liberty" is code for an far-right agenda...attacking "CRT" (which of course isn't taught in K-12 anyway) and "wokeness," attacking teaching sex education, and of course attacking COVID-19 mask mandates. mediamatters.org/critical-race-…
A woman named Katie MacFarland is the chair of the Oakland County, Michigan chapter of M4L.
Ironically, the #IRA extending the #AmRescuePlan's enhanced #ACA subsidies will actually SAVE the federal government a bit of money in *reduced* ACA subsidies...because it's leading to slightly lower unsubsidized 2023 premiums.
AFAICT, it should save ~$61 million in CA alone.
Yesterday Connecticut also issued their final 2023 rates, specifically stating an avg. 0.7 pt reduction from the initial request specifically thanks to the #IRA passing. That's another ~$7M saved. acasignups.net/22/09/07/conne…
