The health situation in #Tigray, Ethiopia is grim. The ability to meet health needs is extremely limited. WHO has no health supplies available in the Mekelle warehouse. There has been no humanitarian road or air access for 6 weeks. Chronic shortages of fuel and cash continue.
Following the latest airstrike in #Tigray that killed over 60 people, WHO is very concerned over the lack of access to healthcare for the injured in Adi Daero. We distributed the few remaining trauma care and essential health supplies to Shire area, a town close to Adi Dearo.
The distributed supplies are insufficient, and due to the prevailing security situation, movement restrictions are in place. Without supplies, health facilities could do little to help the few injured people who were able to reach them. Some died. This creates a double tragedy.

Here is what you need to know about the first malaria vaccine, RTS,S🧵

The malaria vaccine is a scientific breakthrough. The 1⃣st💉vaccine recommended for use against a human parasitic disease of any kind and the first against malaria 🦟

📌bit.ly/3RHZfcY
In 2020, nearly half a million children in Africa died from malaria that is 1 child died from malaria every minute.⏰

This can change.

The vaccine substantially reduces malaria illness & death and can save tens of thousands of children each year if deployed widely.
Since 2019, 1⃣million+ children have been reached with at least one dose of vaccine through pilot introductions in Ghana, Kenya & Malawi.

Where the vaccine 💉 was introduced, there was a substantial drop in children hospitalized with severe malaria & a drop in child deaths.
