🧵 Last week, our organization @The_ILF, wrote to @adidas leadership in Germany, calling on them to end their silence and terminate their contract with #KanyeWest, over his relentless #antisemitic tirades.
Enclosing contents of letter in thread below:
1/
@The_ILF@adidas We write this letter to you on behalf of The International Legal Forum (ILF), a global network of over 4,000 lawyers and activists, committed to combating antisemitism in the international legal arena.
2/
In 2016, Adidas introduced clauses into your contracts, preventing discrimination against LGBT athletes.
In 2020, you joined BLM campaign, noting “We understand that the fight against racism is one that must be fought continually and actively. We must and will do better.”
3/
And in 2021, you took part in the #STOPASIANHATE initiative, in solidarity with the American Asian community, which experienced a wave of racial hatred.
4/
Yet, why is it that Adidas has remained silent in the face of the vicious antisemitism and Jew hatred, as expressed by Kanye West, one of your key strategic partners?
5/
In 2016, Adidas signed a major deal with Kanye, calling it a “transformative new partnership” and “the most significant” ever created between an athletic brand and a non-athlete. You called Kanye “a true creator who has the ability to see things others don't."
6/
However, in the last few weeks, Kanye has revealed himself for what he truly is – a creator of bigoty, racism and virulent antisemitism.
7/
Earlier this month, Kanye threatened to go “Death Con 3 on JEWISH PEOPLE.” He has since gone on an unhinged antisemitic tirade, including:
8/
blaming “Jewish media” for various grievances, saying “Jewish people have owned the Black voice” and that “the Jewish community, especially in the music industry, they’ll take us and milk us till we die.”
9/
Sadly, there are many more such examples, of Kanye invoking age-old antisemitic stereotypes about Jews in the past month. These are all clear examples of antisemitism, according to @TheIHRA working definition of antisemitism.
10/
The IHRA working definition is the most widely endorsed in the world, including by the United States and Germany, and he has been roundly condemned the world over, with a number of leading brands actually dropping him as a result.
11/
At a time of antisemitism rising to record highs across the U.S., including violence against Jews, there can be zero tolerance against such racial hatred.
12/
Adidas is a company that prides itself on being a responsible and inclusive leader in the community and tackling all forms of hatred and discrimination. Your athletes and corporate partners the world over, such as Kanye, serve as role models to millions, especially youth.
13/
You cannot afford to stay silent here. Particularly as a German company, with a dark history during the Holocaust, it is all the more important and incumbent upon Adidas to speak out and take against against Kanye’s antisemitism.
14/
Last week, Kanye claimed “The thing about me and Adidas is like, I can literally say antisemitic shit and they can’t drop me. Now what?”
Well, now Adidas has chance to demonstrate that it will not in fact, allow Kanye to make such antisemitic attacks without consequence.
15/
We call on you to end your silence, condemn Kanye’s obscene antisemitism and terminate your partnership with him.
16/
Furthermore, we urge you to adopt the IHRA working definition of antisemitism, as a sign of your commitment to tackling antisemitism and demonstrating you have a zero tolerance policy towards racial hatred against Jews.
17/
The International Legal Forum (ILF) will be happy to work with and assist Adidas with respect to all aspects of the above recommendations, including implementing an educational policy on combating antisemitism.
18/ END

Shameful cowardice and hypocrisy from the UN (@UNOCHA), penalizing one of its staff, after she dared to speak the truth about what happened in #Gaza and call out Islamic Jihad! @ochaopt@antonioguterres
1/
Instead of supporting Muscroft, the UN effectively threw her under the bus, by capitulating to the terrorists and the anti-Israel activists, by forcing her to make an apology and then re-assigning her to a new role.
2/
Notably, the UN, who are supposed to be impartial, never call out or reprimand their people when they criticize and attack Israel, yet they only do so when an official has the basic courage and decency to speak the truth and challenge the lies of Islamic Jihad and Hamas.

🧵 THREAD on @UN_HRC Commission Miloon Kothari’s ‘apology’ for saying “the Jewish Lobby” controls social media + questioning #Israel’s membership to the UN:
1/ Draft:
“This non-apology is entirely meaningless and predictable.”
“It is also telling it came after almost 20 countries condemned him and a staggering 10 days after he made the initial remarks. Does it really take someone that long to recognize that saying “the Jewish Lobby” controls the media is abhorrent, racist and antisemitic?”
2/
“At end of day, this @UN_HRC is still rooted to the core in Jew hatred and bias. It should be disbanded immediately and permanently, relegated to the dustbin of UN’s shameful antisemitic history.”
3/
🧵 My speech to @UN_HRC#HRC49 debate on 'Children in Armed Conflict', calling on @UNICEF & int'l community to stop abhorrent use of #ChildSoldiers by #Palestinian terror groups in Gaza.
With thanks to colleagues at @NGOmonitor, for allotting @The_ILF their time slot to present.
@UN_HRC@UNICEF@NGOmonitor@The_ILF The late Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks, one of the great thought leaders of our time, once said “Tomorrow’s world is born in what we teach our children today.”
1/
Indeed, he was so right, especially as we look at the lives of children being ravaged in Ukraine now, as well as the Middle East, a region wrought with conflict & war for decades.

In honour of #Chanukah, this is a THREAD with some of the most powerful Chanukah images (c/- @yadvashem) from 'Before, During and After the Holocaust'.
Starting with this, perhaps most powerful one: Kiel, Germany (1932)
Have you heard the incredible story about Joseph and Rebecca Bau, who survived Auschwitz, were immortalized in Schindler's List film, moved to Israel and then made the most indelible contribution to the Jewish state and the Jewish people?
This is their story.
A THREAD ⬇️ ⬇️ ⬇️
1. Joseph and Rebecca, both originally from Poland met in Plaszow death camp near Krakow, where they fell in love and were secretly married – an act for which if found out, would incur certain execution.
2. Joseph had actually dressed as a woman to sneak into the camp, in order to have a makeshift wedding. Their wedding was immortalized in the iconic film ‘Schindler’s List’.
#OnThisDay (1938), we mark 82 years since #Kristallnacht, when Nazis (and their enablers) across Germany & Austria razed synagogues, smashed windows and murdered almost 100 Jews in a violent pogrom - known as ’Night of Broken Glass'.
1. Kristallnacht, was a murderous example of the capacity of humans to escalate from harassment, indifference, demonization and singling out of Jews - to violence.
First by words and through dehumanization, and then through the Nazi infrastructure of death.
2. In the weeks that followed #Kristallnacht, approximately 30,000 Jews were transported to concentration camps — a sorrow foreshadowing of the further evil that would soon ensue.
