Today, we are joining dozens of other groups to ask advertisers to pause Twitter spending because we are profoundly concerned about antisemitism and hate on the platform. Here's why we're asking advertisers to #StopHateForProfit and #StopToxicTwitter🧵stophateforprofit.org/statement-call…
This past Tuesday, @Twitter’s new owner @elonmusk met with representatives from U.S civil society organizations, including @JGreenblattADL and @YaelEisenstat. Following that meeting, Musk pledged that "Twitter will continue to combat hate & harassment," including antisemitism.
Since that meeting, Musk permitted @kanyewest to start posting again. From Ye's "Death Con 3" tweet to @KyrieIrving promoting an antisemitic film, we've seen celebrities use Twitter to disseminate antisemitic conspiracy theories and hate to tens of millions of followers.
When Adam Green, an antisemitic podcaster with over 28,000 followers, shared a tweet describing Judaism with terms like 'savage,' 'evil,' and 'wicked,' Twitter declined to remove it after being alerted to it by ADL, saying that it did not violate its community guidelines.
Antisemitic extremist groups continue using Twitter to organize and share propaganda. Prominent members of the white supremacist-led National Justice party are actively sharing antisemitic and racist content and also provide links to extremist platforms.
Twitter has been one of the primary places for disseminating the Boston Mapping Project, which called on activists to 'dismantle' Jewish community institutions and a wide array of essential Jewish community groups because they support Israel.
Since October 27th, a 4chan-driven campaign in which trolls are deliberately flooding Twitter with antisemitic imagery and memes in response to Musk's takeover – has increased in volume. As of today, it's received over 16,000 mentions.
Musk has also conducted massive layoffs, gutting staff that supported combating antisemitism and hate on Twitter. Until Musk makes real changes to #stophateforprofit, we urge advertisers to #StopToxicTwitter by pausing their advertising on the platform globally.

Five years ago today, “Q” posted for the first time. Since then, QAnon has evolved into a global conspiracy movement that poses a serious threat to democracy – both in the U.S. and abroad. 🧵
While QAnon may have begun as a fringe, internet conspiracy theory, it has migrated into the mainstream, becoming a powerful force in American politics.
With the 2022 midterms right around the corner, QAnon adherents—animated by false election fraud claims—are looking to insert themselves and their beliefs into the electoral process. Our Center on Extremism highlighted this alarming trend here: adl.org/resources/blog…
Putin’s false accusation that Ukraine has a Nazi regime is just the latest example of #RussianPropaganda that involves #antisemitism or Holocaust distortion, often in the form of unfounded Nazi comparisons. A thread:
The most famous Russian #antisemitic propaganda is the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, a forgery first disseminated in Russia in 1903, which blames a secret cabal of Jews for much of the world’s problems. antisemitism.adl.org/power/
Soviet intelligence agents conducted a campaign of covert swastika painting in West Germany in 1959-1960 to support Soviet propaganda that West Germany remained a Nazi state, while the Soviet Union was the true victor over #Nazism.
.@RepMTG, who spread QAnon conspiracies, #antisemitism & Islamophobia, was temporarily suspended from @Twitter. Actions have consequences, especially when it comes to spreading dangerous conspiracy theories. cnbc.com/2021/01/17/twi…
While her time in the political spotlight has been brief, Marjorie Taylor Greene has proven to be a dangerous purveyor of #antisemitic QAnon conspiracies, Islamophobia and racism. A brief background ⬇️ adl.org/qanon
Greene launched her career on Facebook as a conservative firebrand, posting videos of her efforts to confront politicians and activists. She is a vocal supporter of QAnon, which the FBI labels a “potential terrorist threat.” thedailybeast.com/marjorie-green…
Following the seditious riot at the U.S. Capitol building, ADL conducted a survey to measure Americans’ concerns about the extremism and violence that was on full display January 6th.
See the full findings here: adl.org/american-attit…
Most Americans now see the connection between the dangerous rhetoric from the President and the far-right to the violence at the US Capitol.
Over 60% believe President Trump bears responsibility for what happened on Jan 6th.
The violence at the Capitol was the “latest example of why it’s essential that policymakers and social media companies take concrete action to prevent future violence.” -@JGreenblattADL.
@ADL found most Americans agree social media companies are partly to blame for January 6th.
BREAKING: ADL’s Survey of American Attitudes toward Jews found that, amid the worst outbreak of anti-Semitic violence in decades, 11% of American adults--28M people--harbor deeply ingrained anti-Semitic attitudes. Read the full survey: adl.org/survey-of-amer…
61% of American adults agree with at least one or more classic anti-Semitic canards, whereas 11% agree with six or more of them.
Longstanding stereotypes about “Jewish power” in business and the “dual loyalty” canard – the notion that Jews are more loyal to Israel than to their home country – remain deeply entrenched and are especially widespread.
