Over the next 7 days, we’ll look back at #Cardano’s previous development phases as we prepare for #IOScotFest and the #CardanoSummit. Let’s start where it all began: with Byron.
🧵 1/n
The Byron phase:
The first incarnation of Cardano allowed users to buy and sell ada on a federated network running Ouroboros Classic, the first academic research-based proof-of-stake protocol with a mathematically-proven level of security.
🧵 2/n
This phase also saw the release of two Cardano-native wallets:
Daedalus, IOG's official desktop wallet for ada
Yoroi, a light wallet by EMURGO for quick transactions and day-to-day use
🧵 3/n
. $ada could also be held through paper wallets and #Ledger hardware wallets.
Byron was about building a community and involving it in creating the blockchain of the future. The Cardano community grew from a small group of enthusiasts to a global community, , with ada hosted on more than 30 exchanges.

🎟️ Join us for IO Scotfest: The Age of Voltaire this coming Friday and Saturday Nov 18-19. This special event will be live-streamed right here on Twitter.
As we continue looking back at Cardano’s milestones, today we focus on Shelley, Cardano’s second development phase. #CardanoADA
🧵 1/n
The Shelley phase
Shelley was a period of growth and development for the network, encompassing the critical early steps in Cardano’s journey to optimize #decentralization.
🧵 2/n
This phase saw the complete re-implementation of the Cardano node for improved reliability, assurance, and performance, and the ability to maintain and evolve the node over time.
Pioneer, polymath, and harbinger of a new era of women in science and technology. IOG would like to highlight some notable female-led projects on #Cardano.
✨Born in 1815 to English poet Lord Byron and his wife Lady Anne Byron, Ada Lovelace is widely recognized as a pioneering female in the fields of mathematics and early computer science.
Ada worked closely with English polymath Charles Babbage, and is credited with publishing an algorithm intended to be used with Babbage's proposed programmable machine. Ada's ahead-of-its-time work earned her an enduring legacy.
Daedalus 5.0.0 Mainnet release supports node version 1.35.3 and is #Vasil compatible. 1/5
This release also fixes the following known issues:
✔️older Daedalus executables that didn’t get deleted after auto-update
✔️errors when selecting syncing wallets during delegation/redeem ITN rewards process
2/5
Plus:
✔️system using previous amount of tokens to be sent even if user alters the amount during fee calculation

VASIL UPGRADE: DATE CONFIRMED 💪
Following the successful completion & extensive testing of all core components, plus confirmed community readiness, we along with @cardanostiftung can today announce 22nd September for the #Vasil upgrade on the #Cardano mainnet. 🧵
$ADA
1/9
#Vasil is the most significant #Cardano upgrade to date, bringing increased network capacity and lower cost transactions. The upgrade will also bring enhancements to #Plutus to enable devs to create more powerful and efficient #blockchain-based applications.
2/9
We’ve been tracking well against all three metrics we & @cardanostiftung set for launch:
📈75% mainnet blocks being created by the final Vasil node candidate (1.35.3)
📈Approx. 25 exchanges upgraded (c. 80% of ada liquidity)
📈Top 10 DApps by TVL confirming readiness

We’ve partnered with the prestigious @Stanford University to create the ‘Blockchain Research Hub’.
Here’s a thread on what you need to know.
🧶 1/n
Objectives of the Blockchain Research Hub
The hub seeks to:
👉Tackle fundamental/foundational questions in the #blockchain space
👉Extensively increase the blockchain industry's collation of scientific knowledge
👉Promote the importance of research in this nascent space
🧶 2/n
Details about the Blockchain Research Hub
IOG will fund the hub to the tune of $4.5m over the next 3 years.
The hub will support innovative research into #blockchain and distributed ledger technology
