1. Today we have a special request on the Mitigation Work Program: Less brackets, more clarity for #1o5ToStayAlive ‼️
This special thread is targeted at negotiators and Ministers as they do a final push towards a strong end to #COP27#ClimateJustice
2. Yesterday we were pleased to wake up to a new text on the MWP. But few changes were made and some crunch points remain. And today…they still do!! As we really need this work programme to put us on track to #1o5C by 2030, we would like to offer some views on the text
3. We can't believe that you are still discussing the duration of this programme. Can't you just agree it needs to last till 2030 or till we close the gap?
We have just 1⃣ more day to finish this. Aren't you tired of food and bathroom queues and those sandwiches yet? We are!
4. We are here on the margins of the Ministerial Consultations trying to understand what you mean on para. 11.
It seems that the investment-focused events (that we like, by the way) that will happen on the margins of the dialogues risk to be on the margins of the report.
5. This main tool to make this programme actionable and not another talkshop. Could you please get that straight?
The only way to get action on measures, policies and plans is through a clear package of incentives and it's not clear that those events will get us there.
6. Para.16 describes the key outcome of this process, which is a report of each dialogue summarizing key findings, opportunities and barriers [and relevant recommendations].
The recommendations are relevant, actually fundamental, so we would like to see these brackets go.
7. We want the annual compilation of these dialogue reports for consideration at the Ministerial Roundtables of Pre-2030 and the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Paris Agreement.
8. This is the way to make the #MWP deliver the impulse needed for parties to enhance #ambition and #implementation in this critical decade.
9. We are almost done here and we want to be able to go home to our families and tell them this COP did what was needed to keep #1o5toStayAlive.

.#COP27 will end in hours/days🤔and the new cover text draft did reduce in length.
BUT what we cannot accept is the continued exclusion of priorities of vulnerable countries and the backsliding on the Glasgow Pact - this process must always be moving us forward!
CAN’s reaction⬇️
2/9 The #COP27 Cover Decision must include language on the equitable phase-out of ALL fossil fuels - coal, oil, AND gas.
A huge number of countries demanded this and the Egyptian Presidency must stop ignoring it.
3/9 Parties must avoid using qualifiers and loopholes such as “(un)abated”, “rationalize”, “inefficient”, “low carbon”, and “diversification of energy” which weaken commitments to the phasing-out of #FossilFuels and fossil fuel subsidies in the cover decision.
“You cannot have a LossAndDamage fund, if it doesn't deliver solidarity to those communities on the frontline that cannot adapt to #ClimateChange anymore. We are in need of international solidarity.” @mohadow@PowerShftAfrica
3. “The next few days at COP27 are important to build a common narrative that will secure Africa’s energy future.” Dean Bhebhe of @PowerShftAfrica in @dailymaverick by @EthanVanDiemen
1/5 At this morning´s @CANIntl press briefing our speakers expressed their demand that #COP27 must establish a #LossAndDamage Finance Facility. Follow the 🧵 to read more...
H.M. Ralph Regenvanu, Vanuatu’s Minister of Climate Change, said: “We are out of time, out of money and out of patience. We must establish a #LossAndDamage Finance Facility at #COP27". @VanuatuUN
@TLukuko, @can_southafrica: “The multilateral system we have is unable to address the very very serious concerns that we have. We need to see very decisive action taken by world leaders”.
1/7 🧵
We’re well into week 2 of #COP27 and the draft cover text has finally dropped: a record-long (8.400 words) COP27 cover decision draft text 36 hours before the official end of COP27. This text lacks a clear structure and vision.
Initial CAN reaction below ⬇️
2/7 Lack of transparency, and progress in the different negotiations is leading to the undermining of a meaningful outcome. It is the responsibility of the Egyptian presidency to urgently start accelerating the work and show leadership for an ambitious cover decision.
3/7 The #COP27 cover decision must not backslide, but rather demonstrate progress from the Glasgow text on #1o5C and ALL fossil fuels.
📢Have you done your vocal warm-ups this morning?
It seems that we really need to speak, sing and shout much more as Parties are not listening, or don’t want to…

Ministerial pairs have been announced to get some of the thorny issues unstuck:
🇿🇦🇩🇰South Africa and Denmark - MWP
🇲🇻🇪🇸Maldives and Spain - GGA
🇮🇳 🇦🇺India and Australia - Finance NCQG
🇸🇬 🇳🇴Singapore and Norway - Art 6
🇨🇱 🇩🇪Chile and Germany - Finance for L&D
#LossandDamage Finance - G77 and China are UNITED! They have presented a clear and concise path which follows in many ways the precedence of the #GCF and Adaptation Fund.
