🧵 1/7 @RishiSunak the NHS doesn’t need more money … it needs to better manage/better spend the money it has.
@DHSCgovuk planned spend for 2021/22 on England = £190.3bn - majority (£136bn) passed to NHS England & NHS Improvement for spending on health services… 💰
2/7 How is that not enough for England’s 56m population? 🤯
c.40% of this is spent on treating preventable conditions! Yet the NHS fails to execute a strategy that truly prioritises prevention… 🤦🏽♂️
3/7 Take CVD as an example: economic analysis suggests that if all detected individuals were managed according to NICE guidelines, the total saving would be £61bn & 5.2m CVD cases prevented!
The amount of waste in public services is criminal… 🗑
4/7 Rather than address this, you want to throw more money down the drain! 😵💫
Government MUST focus on getting more/better value from the NHS budget - not simply spending more!
NHS serves a vital function but is unsustainable as it is & more money will just mean more waste…😳
5/7 Time to wake up ⏰
No government will reform the NHS in a 5yr Parliament.
This needs x/party expert panel with clear remit, sharp teeth, & minimum 15 year delivery plan focused on: value, R&R, productivity, technology, patient care, infrastructure (amongst other things)…
6/7 If the NHS is to stand any chance of tackling the range of very serious challenges it faces the government are going to have to get serious, creative, & brave.
2023 will be the NHS’s 75th birthday … what better gift could we give it than the chance to survive 🎁
