1/ The future of offices will determine the future of #CustomerExperience and #productmanagement. Offices used to be warehouses for people to sit and work, so their design was form-fit to the purpose. With the high likelihood of permanent or semi-permanent remote work...
2/ the #futureofwork and the office will be predominantly (like 85% of sq ft) collaboration and innovation spaces designed for short-term team group work or periodic convocations. Pre-COVID state of working was about coming together and breaking out, but at a different cadence...
3/ and meetings were too frequent. But with better time management and stronger mental commitment to #innovation time" we have the great potential to dramatically improve the products and services we provide and how we provide them. Sacred cows will be slain. Immovable...

What are the biggest cover-your-ass, #CYA moves at #work? --- >
Cover your ass moves (“CYA”) are everywhere at work. While I firmly believe there are great managers and leaders all over the world, the fact of the matter remains that most people are not actually good at anything managerial —
by some estimates, 82 percent of managers end up being the wrong hire.

Over the past few weeks of #covid19 confinement - or #shelteringinplace as they say in the US - we have been able to witness (and sometimes support) a number of organizations in their move to #remotework
We believe our experience with implementing #NWoW - #futureofwork in North America - is a helpful lens in seeing both the challenges and changes organizations face when switching to #remotework... some observations:
Organizations that are technologically well-equipped for #remotework before #covid19 were obviously advantaged, but... it was much easier for organizations that were already culturally fit/ready! #orgculture

Leonardo wanted a comfortable and spacious city, with well-ordered streets and architecture. Today, his ideas actually suggest a way forward for urban planning.
A new study shows just how beneficial remote working can be

Companies that let their workers decide where and when to do their jobs increase employee productivity, reduce turnover, and lower organizational costs.

People end up producing just as much, with higher quality and creativity, and they are also more loyal to the organizations that are willing to give them flexibility to care about their lives outside of work.

To build the workforce of the future, we need to revolutionize how we learn

We've entered the Fourth Industrial Revolution. We're living in a world in which it's predicted that 20-50% of tasks will be replaced by machines and #AI.
“If we do not change the way we teach, we’re going to be in trouble”. Ma
The knowledge-based approach of “200 years ago”, would "fail our kids", who would never be able to compete with machines. Children should be taught “#softskills” like independent thinking, values & teamwork.
Currently around 63% of students withdrawal. Scott Bolland explores the science of learning, the mismatch with how we teach, and the important role that #ArtificialIntelligence (#AI) could take in addressing the limitations in our current education system.

The US job market is broken for tens of millions.

Workers bear the risks/debt of education mismatch, get 'screened out' of better jobs if they lack costly degrees, face huge barriers to gain new skills.

@guardian gave me 500 words to say how to fix it.👇🏾
theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
@guardian Opportunity Marketplace: re-wired labor market rules & tools to empower Americans without 4-year degrees to earn more in better jobs, gaining new skills w/lower risk & higher reward.

Millions of STARs (skilled through alternative routes) need their chance to shine. #futureofwork
@guardian Policy elements?
1. Fund growth of any learning institutions delivering wage gains for low-income workers.

2. Entitle working learners to 6-month income support in free, debt-free, or de-risked “last mile” training.

3. Reward in tax code employers' training for portable skills.

IBM is accused of firing older workers. This is really about money - and doesn't just apply to IBM. Many companies sneakily create practices, communications & policies (like not subsidizing family health coverage)to discourage hiring older workers.

Age discrimination is especially common in #tech, where appearing "cool" carries a premium for recruiting top grads & younger talent.

In most careers, there comes an inflection point where junior employees can do the same job (or ~80% of it) for way less.

3/7
Sadly, to companies we're no more than "human resources," so employees must make themselves indispensable, esp. as their salaries creep up.

How?

1) Develop a unique expertise: be known for it. Could be anything from a coding language to ideas generation to great #design.

We would like to share two predictions of the future of work so you can all join in with your contributions.

The first prediction is that Artificial Intelligence(AI) and robotics will create more jobs, not mass unemployment as is feared. #MTGTuesdayTalk
The second prediction is that our education system would break out of silos!
Our education system is broken and it’s no news that the way we educate future generations no longer prepare them adequately for the skills and jobs of today. #tfow #mtgng #mtgtuesdaytalk

Weekend #futureofwork #workhuman musings: Leaders who treat everything as cogs and cashflows are destroyers of value. They are operating from a 1950s playbook in the 21st century. (Thread)👇🏽

1/ Organisations need generalist advisers who are not attached to their experience and expertise. Fresh eyes + deep understanding of individuals across cultural divides will mark emerging consulting paradigms. This will put pressure on business schools.
2/ In the words of @davidsrose "All companies designed to succeed in the 20th century are doomed to fail in the 21st century."

Several reasons -

The new world is digital. The new generation is digital. Change is on an accelerating curve. Learning is not. #futureofwork
@davidsrose 3/ Companies are led by people trained on industrial age methods by industrial age academics in industrial age institutions. Leadership is about growing existing portfolios by scaling. #Innovation means disrupting existing mindsets and methods. This is new. #futureofwork

This all started because the #MetPolice & #LBRUT couldn't do their day jobs properly & decided to take the law into their own hands. It started as a small cover up 12 years ago but has turned into British State Persecution.

My company was raided. It should have been a straightforward matter. But the #MetPolice & #LBRUT forgot to seize my computer & came back to do a 2nd raid. The search warrant didn't permit a second entry, however, #LBRUT entered unlawfully

#Guardian #Telegraph #DailyMail #GMB #UK
Complaints were then made to my MP #VinceCable. He liaised with the #Metpolice & #LBRUT. And then weeks later, the search warrant was completely changed & was passed off as the search warrant executed on the day of the raids.

Businesses raise their prices *without* the minimum wage going up allathetime! #cdnecon
Exhibit A: Tim Horton's raised the price of a cup of coffee in
2011 by 7¢ ("rising prices of coffee beans")
2014 by 10¢ ("rising operations costs", with coffee bean prices and, oh yah, costs of [$11B] Burger King deal identified)
August 2017 by 10¢ ("rising operations costs")
You will note not one of those rising costs were wages.
NONE.
Put price rises in context. Any rising input cost is a rising cost. Period.
Including executive pay and mergers and acquisitions.

Every day next few days I'll share one #depression/#anxiety insight from my own experience. If it helps anyone a wee bit, it'll be worth it.
1. "#Happiness" can scare #anxiety patients. In our heads, things are always going wrong. Fear of a "happy" moment undone is doubly painful.
Sorry, this won't be a daily affair as I had earlier imagined. But here's insight #2 based on my brush with #depression/#anxiety.
