- Twitter algorithm #opensource
(What does the algorithm do exactly? Is it harmful or actually doing any good? No algorithm - sort by timeline)

- Try our best to achieve free speech (not a fan of censorship, but we also have to follow the law of the land)
- Give users more privacy options so it can also be a platform for highly targeted individuals like journalists, whistle-blowers, activists, etc.

- Community guidelines to be run by the Twitter community, not by a small group of people at the top (decentralized decisions)
- Have a diversified content moderation committee (just trying to be unbiased)

- I understand the platform needs to generate revenue, so it can't get rid of ads; solution: Privacy respecting ads

- Better reward mechanism for content creators(crowdsource the idea)
- Can also have a user safety team to sort of fight addiction (point to be discussed a lot - maybe this could kickstart the conversation)

- Content ownership for creators

- Making the entire code open source has its pros and cons (to be discussed as well)
- Above points should be done in such a way it doesn't stifle revenue growth as the board won't be happy with revenue going down, and R & D will be affected
Note: I am a nobody. I am just looking out for fellow humans. I am probably not qualified to give suggestions. But I have put down my thoughts anyway. Take it or leave it - totally up to you.

Twitter vs. Mastodon - how do they work?

Centralized vs. #Decentralized Social Network

🧵 Twitter vs Mastodon
Trump's brand-new social network 'Truth Social' used Mastodon's code. @joinmastodon

Reference: blog.joinmastodon.org/2021/10/trumps…
Mastodon's revenue is not dependent on advertisers like other social media companies like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, Tiktok, etc. The ad-based revenue model isn't necessarily good in all cases as ads=tracking leads to the users -> product and advertisers -> customers Credit: Four Week MBA

RT @cora@kolektiva.social
Signal has a new feature that is very social media-y called "stories" which (puts on out-of-touch hat) is apparently an instagram thing. Before y'all go being all social-y in an E2EE messaging app, please do not choose "All Signal Connections" (1/5)
without extreme caution.

"All Signal Connections" includes:
🌟Everyone you've ever messaged.
🌟Everyone in a Signal group you've ever been in.
🌟Everyone in your address book if you connected it to signal (which until now I considered safe b/c no one knew but you) even if (2/5)
you never messaged them.

So this could be:
🌟 Your ex.
🌟 Your other ex.
🌟 That neighbor from 10 years ago.
🌟 That person in that board game group who looks at you weird.
🌟 That cop who is in the giant Signal loop that we recommend against being in because you never (3/5)

Why you should avoid using Chinese phones and apps like Tiktok asap?

#deletetiktok #cybersecurity #privacy #securityawareness
If you care about your data privacy, it's high time we should take this issue seriously and avoid buying Chinese phones like Xiaomi, Realme, Oppo, OnePlus, Vivo, Huawei, etc.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_m…
These are spying devices used for data collection by the Chinese govt. There are no proper privacy laws to protect user data. It's basically a surveillance state. Citizens don't have many rights to stand up against the authoritarian regime.

One most common thing that you may have observed is that a lot of #privacy researchers recommend is to get rid of as many Google products and services as possible. #degoogle

Understand the Business Model -

If you are not paying for it, you are the product.

Alphabet - The parent company of Google. Pic below shows the revenue breakdown and we can clearly see that most revenue is generated from ads by selling user data.
There are N number of articles that have criticized Google for such unethical practices - some of them being privacy concerns, algorithm bias, etc. #EFF
