I wrote a whole thread about application-specific L2s (like @loopringorg) + how they differentiate from general purpose L2s (like @taikoxyz) - check it out below
Essentially the two projects are complimentary, not in competition at all
Even so, it's absolutely necessary to not have any built in biases or perceived conflicts of interest @taikoxyz, or else other projects may not want to build on top of Taiko L2 in the future
I love @taikoxyz and believe strongly in its future + will be an investor in #TKO
/๐
But my main attention + focus will be on delivering on @loopringorg's vision moving forward๐
The past weeks have shown the world that centralized systems cannot be trusted
We now have the technology to build brand new systems that no longer require centralized trust
/๐
We CANNOT rebuild the same systems of the past, and polish them up with crypto assets
The financial systems of the future will be built on #crypto rails
and the world is going to become financialized, so most systems in the future can be built on #crypto rails๐
/๐
The Loopring L2 ecosystem will be a major player in making this a reality
A new system, "for the people, by the people", this is what #crypto enables
Now, an entire ecosystem can be fully owned and operated by its users - enabled through DAOs + crypto assets like $LRC ๐
/๐
This is all possible through Loopring's application-specific #zkRollup architecture
Technically, it is chain agnostic and doesn't have to remain a L2 - it could one day be a L3, operating even fast, cheaper + more scalable on top of a #zkEVM L2 (Taiko?) ๐๐๐
/๐
Our application-specific nature allows us to highly optimize our products + applications to the max - much more than other general purpose L2 apps
Essentially we are a highly scalable, vertically integrated #crypto ecosystem - targeted at the mass adoption of end users
/๐
Building a one-stop solution for the end user
to come join the #crypto revolution, through self-custodial, decentralized crypto rails + never have to exit back to the traditional, centralized systems
This is what drives me - and this is what we are building @loopringorg๐
/๐
Imagine one day being able to exit the old systems by withdrawing your assets from your bank direct to Loopring L2
Your assets secured by your Loopring Smart Wallet, protected by social guardians
YOU are fully in control - no one can freeze, steal or censor your assets
/๐
You want to invest to earn over the short or long term, you can do this
You want spend some ETH or USDC to buy a new laptop online - just scan a QR code
You want to buy a concert ticket or a house, all of this is possible through verified NFTs representing your ownership
/๐
You want to participate in the DAO + help govern the future direction of the ecosystem - easily right from your phone
Or maybe you just want to stake some LRC to earn some of the fees from everyone else also participating in the Loopring ecosystem, you can do this too๐
/๐
This is the future that I see for #crypto - never having to go back to the old systems of trusting third parties with your hard earned assets
We're years away still, but we are getting closer each and every day and I couldn't be more excited to be a part of helping build it
/๐
I will be helping drive this direction @loopringorg, still being the community front end for the ecosystem but also in the back helping with strategy + product๐
Time for a big thread about Application Specific Rollups (like @loopringorg) + General Purpose Rollups (like basically everything else) ๐งต
On how they often get lumped together, even though they couldn't be more different, and how they are complimentary not in competition๐
In 6months-a year, you're going to hear non-stop about #zkEVMs
They really are the endgame for Ethereum scaling on L2 + I couldn't be more excited for this๐
But this often leads people to believe that App Specific rollups will be left behind - this couldn't be more wrong
/๐
General Purpose L2's on #Ethereum - like Optimism, Arbitrum (OP rollups), Scroll, Polygon + Taiko (#zkEVMs) - are all trying to do one thing (in different ways):
Basically, reproduce Ethereum, but on a faster + cheaper L2 environment, still tied to Ethereum L1 for security
I think calling this @opensea exploit a hack isnโt fair - sounds like it was a social exploit (phishing attack) on users of the app
The real failure here (imo) is that as an industry we still basically require + promote users to use these insecure, โdumbโ wallets w/ apps
๐งต๐
1/
In order to reach billions of users, we NEED mass adoption of โSmartโ wallets like @loopringorg โs๐
2/
The main advantage of a โsmartโ wallet over a โdumbโ wallet (like most wallets ie. MM) is that there is no single point of failure with the Social Recovery mechanism
If you get hacked / phished, you have security layers in place that will prevent the movement of funds
3/
As #Ethereum transitions to Layer 2, I want to try to help the average user understand this change better
Quick thread on what is 'Layer 2' + how do I use it? Using @loopringorg Layer 2 as an example
From the viewpoint of someone who has a Coinbase account + Metamask address
๐
A good way to think about wallets + addresses in #crypto is that every address has multiple Layers built into it - but requires special integration to access each Layer
A new "wallet" creates a new "address"
A new "address" has Layer 1 + Layer 2 levels already built in
๐
When you open a Coinbase or Binance account, they create a new "wallet" + "address" for you, which THEY control
Currently almost all exchanges are only integrated with "Layer 1" of Ethereum
Meaning they can't access/see Layer 2 of these addresses (even though they are there)
