About the Scottish referendum: British citizens are led to believe that in a functioning democracy, a government's legitimacy & moral right to use state power is justified & lawful only when consented, or agreed to, by the people over which that political power is exercised.
Edward Herman &Noam Chomsky in their book, Manufacturing Consent, advanced a #propaganda model for the news media, in which coverage of current events is skewed by corporations & the state in order to manufacture the consent of the governed. This is the case in Britain.
The people of Scotland have in no way, shape, or form, given their consent to be governed by the cabal of increasingly unhinged extremists currently occupying Parliament.

It should also be noted that just 29% of the UK electorate voted Tory in 2019.

#ElectoralReformNow
If you believe FPTP & referendums are the best mechanisms to decide who governs, that's up to you. But a 55%/45% vote, with a margin of 384K - when 660K didn't vote - is an issue. Better minds than mine have been trying to resolve the problem of 'consent' in democratic systems.

'The Dark Money Groups Spending Big To Shape The Supreme Court Are The Same Groups That Spent Millions Pushing Trump’s Big Lie And Funding Insurrectionists.'

LOTS of detail here, courtesy of @accountable_us

accountable.us/wp-content/upl…
The Judicial Crisis Network, The 85 Fund, & their affiliated groups have spent tens of $millions in dark money to shape the Supreme Court, heavily revolves around conservative activist Leonard Leo, & gravitates around major money conduits Donors Trust & the Bradley Foundation.
These dark money groups not only funded Leonard Leo’s network of organizations to the sum of over $52 million in 2020, but also funded entities in 2020 that played a role in the insurrection to the sum of over $37 million, including the following notable examples:

Christian fundamentalist extremists. Jesus fucking wept.
Homeschooled Jenna Ellis, a former assistant professor of legal studies at Colorado Christian University, was hired by Trump in November 2019 as a senior legal adviser, lying about the election & making efforts to overturn Joe Biden's victory in the 2020 presidential election. ImageImage
Ellis self-published 'The Legal Basis for a Moral Constitution', a book arguing the Constitution of the US can only be interpreted in accordance with the Bible. She misleadingly presents herself as a "constitutional law attorney" despite having no history in any federal cases. ImageImage

Metro has never endorsed any political party or candidate, & claims to take a neutral political stance in its reporting. 😉

Not many people know it's owned by Jonathan Harmsworth's Daily Mail & General Trust, & is part of the same media group as the Daily Mail & Mail on Sunday.

“The truth is we just got a lot poorer. We are in for a long, hard, unpleasant journey; a journey that has been made more arduous than it might have been by a series of economic own goals” - Paul Johnson of the pro-market IFS.

#AutumnStatement

theguardian.com/business/2022/…
Asked to lay out what he meant by “own goals”, Paul Johnson, the director of the pro-market Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS), said these included “reducing investment spending”, a decision made by a series of governments, & cutting spending on vocational & further education.
“Very clearly Brexit was an economic own goal. Economically speaking that has been very bad news indeed. Obviously, the mini-budget of a couple of months ago didn’t help. In fact, that was another very large own goal.”
