Parliament voted not to hear an urgent question from an opposition MP on the Orange Line's western expansion fiasco.

MFP's MP Surachet said he wanted to discuss about the irregularity within the bidding process for the extension. (1/4)

The MP said the bidding process could cost taxpayers 68 billion Baht in losses.

However, MPs from Bhamjaithai argued that the discussion would involve people outside parliament & it could interfere with ongoing court rulings before coalition parties voted not to hear it.
Surachet said the process was unfair since the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand canceled the 1st round of bidding and changed the conditions to award the concession to Bangkok Expressway and Metro (BEM) in the 2nd round.

Deputy police chief Surachet Hakparn said at least 3 police officers are being prosecuted for their involvement with Chinese mafia syndicates in Thailand.

3 alleged Thai/Chinese mafia bosses, including Chaiyanat "Tuhao" Kornchaiyanond, are now in custody.

More officers are being investigated including Tuhao's wife who is a police colonel and niece of a former police chief.

The police seized around Bt1 billion worth of assets from Tuhao who allegedly owns the illegal club/casino/drug den in Yannawa that was raided in October.
Apart from Tuhao, 2 other alleged mafia bosses named "David" and "Yuchangfei" are now in custody as well.

2 other mafia boss suspects, "Tony" and "Ming", are still on the run. Ming had left the country, the deputy police chief said.

Of the 1,940 new cases that were found in the past 24 hours:

- 1,788 were found via tests at medical facilities
- 142 via proactive tests
- 10 in quarantine facilities

The 3rd wave had led to 40,121 cases and 151 deaths between April 1 and May 2.

Currently, there are 29,481 patients who are being treated at hospitals. Of that, 954 are in critical condition including 270 on ventilators.

The number of new cases for today is still under 2,000 but 21 casualties marks a new high for the number of deaths during this third wave.

The number of cases today are lower but Bangkok and it surrounding area are still seeing high rate of infections.

Starting today, Bangkok and the conurbation will sees lockdown for 14 days.
Outside of Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Chonburi are the other two epicenters.

Provincial governors have put in quarantine and stay at home orders to stem the tide.

The 3rd wave had led to 36,290 cases and 109 deaths between April 1 and 30.

Currently, there are 28,696 patients who are being treated at hospitals. Of that, 871 are in critical condition including 250 on ventilators.

The Criminal Court had moved the date to provide its ruling on the bail requests made by 7 detained protestors to tomorrow. Protest leader Benjar said protestors will camp out there tonight to wait for the verdict. Crowd control police are on site.

17:30 - The situation had calmed down as the police are now blocking the entrance to the Criminal Court and protestors are being blocked off from the stairs with small fences.

The standoff between the pro-democracy protestors and the police at the Criminal Court. They are demanding for the court to recognize the detained protestors’ right to bail. There are 17 detainees, 10 are being charged with lese-majeste.
