MDCT: Hey doc, now that you have rested and back to work, can you tell me how was @RSNA and what were the highlights of #RSNA2022 meeting?
1/
MP: First of all, people have returned to the meeting. More than anything, I heard from many that attendees were very glad to meet their friends and colleagues after 3 years
MDCT: Seems like it, especially from all the photos you had tweeted
MP: As usual, the meeting was so rich with scientific information, however, many overlapping tracks.
MDCT: But I heard you can access virtually for few more days.
MP: Yes, that is correct, how did you know?
4/
MDCT: Well, the PACS guys were bragging about that, since they all registered for virtual access only
MP: I was planning to watch the sessions that I missed due to overlap soon
MDCT: I know you like going to plenary sessions. How was it?
5/
MP: Plenary sessions are always great, as we get to hear unique & highly acclaimed speakers.
MDCT: You also told sometime, attendees go there to take a short nap
MP: Well, that happens too, since most are tired walking the halls & if speaker is not engaging, takes a nap
6/
MDCT: How was that New Yorker writer – your country man was?
MP: You are talking about Dr Siddartha Mukherjee. He was very good. Highly achieved oncologists and one of the best writers I have read, also gave a very good talk.
7/
MP: His speech was very optimistic, he stressed the role of imaging in cancer treatment & about the future vision for radiology. He also talked about the AI companies he has started.
MDCT: What AI company by an oncologist?
8/
MP: Well, it is very impressive. His AI company is aiming to reduce errors in taking medicines by patients after they are discharged from hospital. Very simple yet effective tool that takes photo of the pills & checks w what was prescribed hence reducing errors
MDCT: Wow! That fits quite well with the meeting theme.
MP: Yes, you are correct, the meeting theme was “Empowering Patients and Partners in Care”
MDCT: Was this illuminated in the RSNA Presidential address?
10/
MP: Yes, Dr Bruce Raffety a radiation oncologist who was this year’s president gave a nice talk and even had a patient who said how important for him to get PET-CT every year as follow up to his cancer treatment as a way to keep his mind at ease.
11/
MP: Let me also tell you about another plenary session and the speaker was Dr Liz. Her presentation was all about her journey as a cancer patient, examining radiology through patient eye. It is true, “one becomes empathetic when one undergoes through difficult times”
12/
O-arm joins their conversation
O-arm: Hey doc, you should have called us so that we could also hear about RSNA meeting. Next time, why don’t you share your experience in a seminar, we can call in C-arm, DBT, UL and anyone interested to know can attend
13/
MP: O-that's not a bad idea. I did that 20 years ago when I returned from visiting CUBA, but that was to colleagues & not w you guys.
MDCT: O-stop disturbing doc. Let him finish what he wants to say, U know how easily he gets distracted. So don’t disturb us. Go ahead doc.
14/
MDCT: What about the technical exhibits?
MP: I need to go, how about we continue this conversation tomorrow after my lecture to our residents
MDCT: Ok doc, will be waiting – I am not mobile so where can I go?
MDCT: Hey doc, O-arm is on his way. We want to hear more about @RSNA
MP: I only have 30 min as I need to attend #IRB meeting
MDCT: Ok doc, tell us about technical exhibits? 1/
MP: Technical exhibits were again quite interesting, sprawling over both North and South side @MccormickPlaceM One highlight of walking through technical exhibits was meeting friends after a long time
MP: They were good, however, since there is only one vendor who has received FDA clearance, all talks were based on that one vendor for #PCCT. I wish other vendors get their systems approved for clinic use soon
O-arm: Anything new to keep all those attendees entertained?

Conversations between UL & MP re studies w & w/o contrast
UL-Ultrasound
UL: Hey doc! We have a new probe (7.5 MHz), & he keeps bugging me about studies w & w/o contrast with #CT & #MRI
MP: That’s easy girl. Why are you having difficulty explaining.
1/
UL: You don’t know doc; this probe thinks he is high frequency & don’t seem to agree on what I say. Just tell me how I can explain in simple terms.
MP: I will try by two images I took at RSNA. Consider 1st photo without contrast & then 2nd photo as study with contrast @RSNA
2/
MP: See the differrence
UL: Not bad doc, I will try explaining to him as you said. BTW, the #RSNA cutout looks good, please don’t mistake me, that is better than the one with contrast (2nd w you)
MP: Girl, you always pull my leg. I should stop talking w you. 3/

Conversations between O-arm and MP re RSNA meeting
O-arm: Hey doc! How is it going over there @rsna#rsna2022? My cousin’s teenage daughter was telling that you are posting a lot on Instagram. What’s up with that?
1/
MP: Why can’t we #MedPhys not allowed to be instagramers? @aapmHQ
O-arm: I was just teasing you doc. As a teacher it is always best to make your students feel comfortable communicating w you, especially if they think you can understand them
2/
MP: Yes. Is that all or did you want to ask me something else?
O-arm: How is the technical exhibits over there? Anything new that I need to be concerned about, that would make me obsolete?

Conversations between MP and IM (Imaging Modality)
IM: Hey doc, why do u guys insist on placing Aluminum (Al) or Copper (Cu) filters in front of my mouth?
MP: It is mainly to filter out some of the lower energy x-rays coming out of Ur mouth. @RSNA
1/
MP: Lower energy x-rays only increases patient skin dose & do not contribute to the overall image quality. Hence, by placing certain thickness of filter materials, we shape x-ray beam coming out of Ur mouth.
IM: Well, then why do U use only Al or Cu, why not Pb?
MP: Because Lead is used to stop all x-rays. In fact, Pb is used in collimator housing to shape the x-ray beam coming out of your mouth, so that it is within the desired region. On the other hand, Al or Cu is used to filter out lower energy x-rays, making beam harder.
