An overview of the daily events in the war between #Russia and #Ukraine. Today was marked by a large-scale Russian missile attack throughout Ukraine, and Ukraine which prior to this attacked two airfields deep in Russian territory.
1/X
As usual we start with #Russian losses per 05/12 reported by the #Ukrainian general staff. We also include captured and/or damaged Russian heavy equipment.
+540 men personnel
+2 tank
+8 APCs
+6 artillery systems
The #AFU found a trophy, or at least parts of it. Will probably be dismanteled..
Over to the general events. This morning started exciting when news arrived that two airbases (#Engels' and #Dyagilevo) deep in Russian territory were struck, inflicting damage on Tupolev strategic bombers, a fuel truck and killing 6 men in the area and wounding 11 more.
Footage from the attack on Engels' airbase. The base is located around 600-700km from the Ukrainian border depending on where the launch happened.
Satellite images from #Dyagilevo that confirm the strike.
At least one Tu-22-M3 and a fuel truck were confirmed damaged at Dyagilevo. Russians speak about the use of an oldscool (70's) Tupolev Tu-141 Strizh drone by the Ukrainian forces. This former Soviet recon drone has a reach of 1000km and cruising speed of 1100km/h.
Today some unconfirmed info came out from external monitoring group tZE that claimed to know how much damage was done..
We can't confirm any of this, and this is very much a rumor.
As if related, Russia retaliated and immediately sent around 14-16 strategic bombers into the air that fired missiles at Ukraine. Kalibr missiles were also fired from the Black Sea. This was confirmed by Ukrainian officials.
Around the expected arrival times of the missiles, explosions began to sound in Ukraine. Explosions were reported in several regions such as Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava, Sumy, Kyiv, Lviv, Kharkiv and Kherson, but no impacts. One Ukrainian AD S-300 missile fell in Moldova.
When the attacks ended by the end of the afternoon, the first numbers came in. What a superb job the Ukrainian air defence did...
Shot down:
Poltava region - 10/10
Kyiv region - 9/10
Dnipropetrovsk region - 15/unknown
Odesa region - unknown
The General Staff / Ukrainian Air Force then confirmed the amount of missiles that were shot down, 60 of various types. A total of 'more then 70' were shot at Ukraine. If we assume the total is around 75, we talk about a hit percentage of 80% which is really good.
Only in Odesa infrastructure was hit which caused outages and problems with water supply.
But, "The country's energy system is functioning and remains intact", Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal said. Head of Ukrenergo said that all damage would be repaired in 1-2 days.
Ukraine withstood this attack and did an amazing job in downing a lot of missiles while holding the energy and other vital infrastructures intact.
Great job.
In Ukraine, the Polish S-125 Neva SC air defense systems was spotted, which uses S-125 missiles from the chassis of a T-55 tank. Their deliveries were not mentioned in official statements.
➡️More AFU recon was reported on the left bank near Oleshky where the AFU already raised the Ukrainian flag. It is very likely that Ukraine controls parts of the islands.
➡️Kherson, Nikopol, Berdyansk and Chornobaivka were subject to shelling today
➡️No map changes.
➡️Russia increased it's attacks around Soledar, where a lot of shelling was reported.
➡️Russia got repelled in Klishchiivka, there are some unconfirmed reports that the AFU has managed to push back Russian troops in this area a bit. Need confirmation.
➡️Russia lost momentum in Pavlivka and is now focussing on shelling #Vuhledar and #Novomykhailivka. Russian forces inside Pavlivka have retreated to the southern outskirts due to AFU pinpoint strikes, inflicting heavy damage
➡️#Maryinka still 50/50
➡️Unconfirmed reports that the AFU is advancing to Orlyans'ke, north of #Kyslivka. Waiting for more information.
➡️The AFU has presence in #Novoselivske, but is heavily targeted by Russian artillery. The town is flattened, making it hard to grab a foothold.
➡️We received information that the 'small town that has fallen to the AFU' which Russian sources reported on is likely #Kuzmyne, east of Dibrova. But we wait for confirmation!
➡️The AFU pushes in the direction of Chervonopopivka, Zhytlivka, Krasnorichens'ke
