⚠️MASK WEARING ADVISORY— New York City health department issues rec to #WearAMask “at all times when in an indoor public settings” including stores, schools, childcare facilities, elevators, public transit, public shared spaces, & even *crowded outdoor settings*! #BringBackMasks Image
2) Furthermore, the NYC health dept mask advisory includes people who have been **previously COVID infected and previously vaccinated.**

A recommendation for all people ages 2+.

And the mask should be a KN95 or KF94 or N95 or better. #BringBackMasks
nyc.gov/assets/doh/dow… Image
3) why did NYC suddenly recommend masks indoors for almost everyone? It’s because NYC has been rated high risk on CDC Community levels —which is CDC’s hospitalization-weighted metric, not just transmission. This is honestly too late — waiting for hospitals to be full is stupid!
4) COVID is further compounded by really high #flu and really high #RSVirus too. this winter season is a true mega tripledemic. The COVID surge is only just beginning nationwide. I kid you note - it will only get worse before it gets better.
5) Things are already horrible and going to get worse. 80% hospital capacity is actually near peak of COVID in past years. But now it’s the flu and RSV and COVID combined. And we are running out of medicines for kids.

HT @NiaWong
6) Shit - we are now back to “Crisis standard of care” again. This is the worst flu season in over a decade. And one of the worst RSV. And COVID in on rise again. #BringBackMasks

💡VACCINE 'SPACE RACE'--It is critical we do not lose our lead or let others leapfrog the U.S. in vaccine technology for COVID, flu, and future viruses. Congress must act now. We have one shot at this--or else it might too late. This is why I wrote this:🧵
thehill.com/opinion/congre…
2) Absent dedicated congressional funding, and funding deployed very soon, the next generation of COVID vaccines to hopefully end the pandemic once and for all, may instead come from overseas and controlled by overseas countries – even if based on U.S.-origin technology.
3) Therefore, the U.S. risks, as the New York Times put it, “creating a scenario in which Americans would have to travel abroad for the latest in American vaccine technology” if the current funding lag continues.

🔔HUGE COVID RULES CHANGES—China lays out a new 10-point #COVID policy change. But it is **not** a Western ‘let it rip’. Key highlights:
📌asymptomatic/mild cases can now quarantine at home (but still needs 2x consecutive PCR negative tests on days 6&7)
🧵
nhc.gov.cn/xcs/gzzcwj/202…
2) 📌Rapid antigen tests allowed.

📌Mass PCR testing of population suspended except for in hospitals, nursing homes, and schools.

📌Blanket lockdowns of entire communities/streets no longer used—but stratify high risk area by households or building/floors.
3) 📌You no longer need to test negative with PCR and show negative test certificates to travel between regions (between cities and provinces)
📌Negative tests no long needed for “landings” - presumably airport arrivals? Unclear if just for domestic or international as well.

⚠️AT LAST—@CDCgov finally encourages people to wear masks to help reduce the spread of respiratory illnesses as Covid, flu and RSV expand—hospitals are overloaded. ➡️Ironically @CDCDirector says "One need not wait on CDC action in order to put a mask on”!
cnbc.com/amp/2022/12/05…
2) More than 19,000 people were hospitalized with the flu during the week ending Nov. 26, nearly double the previous week, according to CDC data.
People hospitalized with Covid also increased 27% during the week ending Dec. 2, according to CDC data.
3) And respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV, has been hospitalizing children at higher rate than in previous years.

⚠️DISASTROUS **Influenza-Like Illness** this year—compared to the same week of 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021–notice how previous “mild” seasons didn’t lead to bullshit “immunity debt” surges? #Tripledemic likely worse due to immunocompromised by #LongCovid.

HT @KirvinQuamme
2) Larger graph of last week’s CDC risk levels of *influenza like illness* which includes a wide variety of respiratory infections resembling flu (which can also be RSV and COVID). The color purple is almost never used. But this year- it’s purple galore. Hospitals overwhelmed.
3) It’s so bad this year that WE ARE RUNNING OUT OF MEDICINE FOR CHILDREN nationwide!! This is not some anecdotal thing — this is a phenomenon in both US and Canada — when kids can get fever med and painkillers — the shit is bad! Anti vaxxers & anti maskers should be ashamed.

REPEALED—The FDA has now withdrawn authorization of the last #COVID19 MAB drug bebtelovimab, citing it is not expected to neutralize the dominant BQ.1 & BQ.1.1 subvariants. This takes away the last COVID monoclonal antibody treatment. Losing the tools! fda.gov/drugs/drug-saf… Image
2) For treatment of COVID, this was the last MAB. While Evusheld is still authorized, it’s for pre-exposure prophylaxis (prevention) in limited people. But even then it has limited efficacy against the newer #BA5 Omicron variants.

reuters.com/business/healt…
3) Earlier in October, FDA already warned doctors prescribing @AstraZeneca's Evusheld to inform patients of

"increased risk for developing COVID-19 when exposed to variants of SARS-CoV-2 that are not neutralized" fda.gov/drugs/drug-saf… Image

Bad news—it seems @Twitter just updated its misleading info policy that #COVID19 misinformation will no longer be enforced. The 11k accounts that were suspended under the old policy will soon be restored. ➡️Stay folks—do NOT cede the town square to them! blog.twitter.com/en_us/topics/c… Image
Welp—this tweet didn’t age well for COVID misinfo I guess
3) Twitter's data shows 11,000 accounts were suspended under the #COVID misinformation policy— with almost 100,000 pieces of content were removed since 2020.

Guess these accounts coming back soon. Time to roll up the sleeves to fight. Don’t back down.
